It was built by a family of skilled Hopi stonemasons shortly after WWII and served as the family’s home until the early 1970s. Learn about the remarkable family of skilled Hopi stonemasons, their work, and continuing legacy. The family was responsible not only for this house, but also many other distinctive homes and structures in and around the Carson City area, including a ranch in Washoe Valley and at least one church at Lake Tahoe.

— Artifact Talk at Mormon Station Park. 2 to 2:30 p.m. at 2295 Main Street in Genoa. Many of the artifacts in Mormon Station’s collection were very important items to people living in the Carson Valley area 100-plus years ago. New inventions have made some of these items obsolete, while others are simply no longer a part of day-to-day life for many people. As a result, sometimes the purpose behind artifacts isn’t obvious to us. Join park staff for a talk that will highlight select artifacts in the park’s collection and discuss their purpose.
