Spring weather conditions around Carson City and western Nevada will continue this week with sunshine through Wednesday and the return of showers late Thursday. The weekend looks to be a different story with the potential of a wet and windy wild ride and the resurgence of moderate atmospheric river, according to the National Weather Service.

Non-stop daily flights on United Airlines to Chicago's O'Hare will begin in June to accommodate busy summer travel demands, Reno-Tahoe International Airport officials announced Monday.

With a new storm blowing into the Carson City region this morning bringing rain and heavy winds and blizzard conditions in the Sierra, motorists can expect delays from Washoe Valley to Carson Valley.

The U.S. Forest Service announced that it will begin pile burning today, Monday, in the Little Valley Fuels Reduction project area north of Carson City near Washoe City as part of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s hazardous fuels reduction efforts.

The Carson Ranger District has delayed pile burning in the Little Valley Fuels Reduction Project area near Washoe City until more favorable weather conditions, according to the U.S. Forest Service. The pile burning was to begin today.

Another weather system is expected to arrive Saturday, bringing windy conditions and a chance of rain around Carson City and snow in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City and surrounding areas will enjoy mostly sunny skies through the weekend and into Monday with a cold, fast-moving winter storm expected in the Sierra and western Nevada by midweek.

Hello fellow anglers, We only have a few days left to fish many of our local waters. On Tuesday, Nov. 15 the California fishing season will come to an end for the majority of the rivers and streams, as well as the lakes in Inyo and Mono counties.

DAYTON — David Vanegas of Medellin, Colombia shot a final round 3-under par 69 for a 21-under 267 total to head the list of 24 players who advanced from the Stage One Web.com Tour Qualifier at Dayton Valley Golf Club.

Enjoy the last few warm days of September as another weather system is expected to arrive later this week to cool things off into the weekend and beyond, according to the National Weather Service.

My friend Ronni wrote me “Got a dilemma for you. Is there something attacking birch trees locally? I note not only is our birch looking sickly, but many around us are looking the same or are dead. Our once robust tree is only 17. Can I save it, or is it a goner?”

It will be dry and breezy today with Red Flag Warnings in effect for much of western Nevada including Carson City. Firefighters around the region are keeping a watchful eye on conditions and have already made smoke investigations checks in area.

A small, smoldering campfire was discovered by firefighters at around noon doing a smoke investigation north of Carson City, according to dispatch. A small brush fire was reported at around 11:30 a.m. in the Silver Springs area, according to the Central Lyon County Fire District.

Water restrictions began June 1 in Carson City. Even addresses are allowed to water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while odd addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday. Monday is a no watering day for everyone.

With summer here and more people heading outdoors to enjoy the season, the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest would like to remind visitors and residents in communities adjacent to the Forest to be extra cautious while engaging in activities that could start a wildfire.

Dry conditions will continue around Carson City with increasing winds Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts up to 40 mph are expected Thursday, with stronger gusts up to 45 mph Friday, mainly during the afternoon and evening.

After a chance of showers late Friday night, it looks like Saturday will be a breezy first day of fishing season for much the Sierra and western Nevada, according to the National Weather Service.

A low pressure system moving through has brought gusty winds, prompting a Wind Advisory for Carson City and much of the region until 11 p.m. Monday and a chance for rain and snow showers.

Forecasters hinted last weekend that a significant change in the weather was coming. That change should arrive beginning late Friday into Saturday with gusty winds and rain around Carson City and snow in the Sierra that may lower to the valley floors by Sunday.

More than 30 volunteers and University of Nevada, Reno staff and students spent a sunny, yet windy, winter day last week building six hoop houses that will be used to grow vegetables year-round to benefit Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada food programs.

With Monday’s last blast of fall, the first day of winter brings less gusty winds and clearing skies before another fast moving, cold winter storm arrives in the Lake Tahoe and the Carson City region Thursday, Christmas Eve.

UPDATE 6PM: NV Energy reports three outages with 16 customers without power as of 6 p.m., in Carson City. There's one power outage in Douglas County with 242 customers without power and 13 outages with 299 customers without power in Washoe County.
