Weather Service warns of dangerous blizzard conditions in Sierra, heavy snow for Carson City area

Though the skies around Carson City were blue Tuesday morning, a winter storm is on the way, with various warnings for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, as well as down to the valley floors around the Carson City area.

The National Weather Service in Reno warns that if you have to travel into the Sierra, do so early Tuesday as conditions will rapidly change Tuesday evening.

U.S. Forest Service to use sheep to reduce hazardous fuels

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, sheep will be released to graze on two separate fuel reduction project areas. These sheep will help remove cheatgrass and other non-native vegetation from National Forest System (NFS) lands.

The West Side of Carson City has been victimized by the theft of lawn ornaments and decorations. Three days in a row my parents house has had their decorations stolen during the night.

Firefighters knock down brush fire off of West Winnie Lane

A brush fire behind a house on Cabrolet Drive on the west side of Carson City was quickly knocked down by firefighters late Friday morning.

The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. in the 1200 block of Cabrolet and burned into brush and a fence, putting up smoke and flames before firefighters knocked it down. It was fully extinguished at 11:41 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Wet weekend weather raises flood concerns around Carson City

A flood watch is in effect for the Carson City area through Saturday as steady rain is forecast to move into the region today and turning to showers Sunday, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
