West Side of Carson City

Though the skies around Carson City were blue Tuesday morning, a winter storm is on the way, with various warnings for Lake Tahoe and the Sierra, as well as down to the valley floors around the Carson City area.

The National Weather Service in Reno warns that if you have to travel into the Sierra, do so early Tuesday as conditions will rapidly change Tuesday evening.

Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with Carson City Toyota, Western Nevada College, and the Carson City Classic Cinema Club to present the inaugural “Made in Nevada” Film Festival, double feature drive-in movies on Oct. 30 and 31, 2020 at the Western Nevada College campus.

If you haven't come out to see the Brewery Arts Center's Flatbed Concert Series this summer, this Saturday is your last chance! The BAC will be bringing the rock band "Silver" to the West Side of Carson City beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Brewery Arts Center has teamed up with The Change Companies and Miles Construction to provide live music directly to the citizens of Carson City during this time of sheltering in place.

Hundreds of sheep will arrive in the hills west of Carson City this week and next week, with heightened alert and expectations as fire season arrives when the rain and snow stops and the heat settles in.

The Board of Supervisors will review the Andersen Ranch Estates Tentative Map this Thursday, January 16th.  The special session starts at 5:30pm at the Sierra Room of the Community Center at 851 Williams Street, Carson City.

In the wake of today's high winds, several homes on the west side of Carson City are again being inundated by tumbleweeds, most of which nearby residents claim are coming from the nearby Andersen Ranch, and the city isn't doing enough to stop it.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department invites all residents interested in the official naming of two open space acquisitions to participate in a brief one-minute online survey.

In what many had hoped would be a return to the wild for a large black bear tranquilized Tuesday morning on the west side of Carson City, ended in tragedy as the 19-year-old animal died in transit, where it was later discovered he had a brain tumor.

UPDATE 445PM: A male driver of a white van with matching plates was detained Tuesday afternoon after a citizen reported the van at the Quick Stop at 3006 North Roop Street. The man was being questioned and the van was being towed.

Carson City Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating three separate suspicious incidents during the past few days involving confrontations between pedestrian females and possible solicitations.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space and public works will be replacing pedestrian access ramps and broken, lifted concrete panels at Long Ranch Park and patch sections of the asphalt path system in and around the 7-acre park.

Beginning around 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, a seemingly endless army of tiny monsters, goblins and ghouls moved into the West Side of Carson City.

Carson City Fire Department honored the Capital City Hand Crew on Thursday for their significant achievements during the fire season. Crew members were recognized for having provided outstanding support during peak fire season.

Bike Month in Carson City always brings fun community activities, including the annual Celebrity Invitational Bike Ride. The Historical Societies in Dayton and Douglas County are hosting lectures this evening: you just have to decide between learning about the Nevada Women’s Project or artist Hans Mayer Kassel.

As part of the Carson Ranger District’s Hazardous Fuels Reduction Program on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, sheep will be released to graze on two separate fuel reduction project areas. These sheep will help remove cheatgrass and other non-native vegetation from National Forest System (NFS) lands.

The Carson City Fire Department will start prescribed fire operations the week of Monday, Feb. 26 and continue as weather conditions allow. Smoke may be visible from anywhere in the city.

The West Side of Carson City has been victimized by the theft of lawn ornaments and decorations. Three days in a row my parents house has had their decorations stolen during the night.

We have filed a police report, but we are asking the wonderful citizens that live in our great town to be aware of this. If you have been a victim please call the Sheriffs Department to file a report.

A brush fire behind a house on Cabrolet Drive on the west side of Carson City was quickly knocked down by firefighters late Friday morning.

The fire was reported at around 11 a.m. in the 1200 block of Cabrolet and burned into brush and a fence, putting up smoke and flames before firefighters knocked it down. It was fully extinguished at 11:41 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Eleanor Bernsten of Carson City took a photo of these five bucks who were taking a rest in the shade of a maple tree recently on her property on the west side of Carson City near Carriage Square.

A flood watch is in effect for the Carson City area through Saturday as steady rain is forecast to move into the region today and turning to showers Sunday, the National Weather Service in Reno reports.
