Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members. Also Monday is a discussion on homeless issues with local advocate and champion for those who are often without a voice, Dee Dee Foremaster.

The first week of November marches along with sunshine to continue into the foreseeable future. With November approaching and Thanksgiving around the corner, Dayton Urgent Care will be collecting non-perishable items for local families now until Nov 15. Item such as boxed stuffing, gravy, canned veggies, boxed desserts, boxed potatoes, canned yams, canned soups and soup mix. In the past years we have had such a great turn out with our other drives.

Joe D’Angelo says he has spent the majority his life helping people. After several failed attempts to bring large-scale community projects to different cities in Nevada, he has now set his sights on Carson City to make his “Joshua’s Community” dreams come to life with the purchase of the Ormsby House. 

Dayton Urgent Care is seeking community donations for its annual backpack and supply drive for this coming school year. We are collecting backpack and school supplies for grades K-12. We are also collecting hygiene products as well along with clothes, shoes and socks.

Reno’s Renown Medical Center has branched into the capital city with its new Urgent Care, located at 2814 N. Carson Street next to the Eagle Valley Medical Center.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new location Tuesday morning. In addition, according to Mark Beauchamp of Shahren Beauchamp Builders, who were the general contractors on the Urgent Care, a Primary Care Facility will be opening mid-May in South Carson, near Starbucks.

Over the last few years Dayton Urgent Care has been giving back to the community and has partnered with Terri Gahr, who works in the schools and is the Dayton Area Resource Coordinator of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties. The organization has been a big help with DUC's clothing drives, Angel trees and the healthy hygiene kits we collect.

CARSON CITY — Carson Tahoe Health’s Board of Directors appointed Alan Garrett as the new Chief Executive Officer effective April 1, 2019, replacing Ed Epperson who retired Dec. 31, 2018. A seasoned healthcare executive with diverse experience and a progressive leadership style, Garrett will assume day-to-day control of the Carson Tahoe Health system.
