Carson City Parks Foundation receives Robert Z. Hawkins grant

Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

V&T Railway celebrates 150 years with anniversary trains running Fridays through Oct. 11

CARSON CITY — To commemorate its historic 150-year anniversary, V&T Railway has introduced special anniversary trains running every Friday through the end of the season. Beginning Friday, Aug. 16, the Carson City to Virginia City train will feature re-enactments at the depot and during the 24-mile round-trip ride.

Seventy two players from all around northern Nevada gathered at the Carson City MAC Saturday, August 3, for good play, new friendships and to raise money towards building dedicated outdoor pickleball courts in the Carson City area.

Truckee Meadows Fire knock down Washoe Valley brush fire

UPDATE: Firefighters knocked down the Ophir Fire on Saturday and were in mop up phase. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch, the fire was around 15 acres. No structures were threatened.

Just after 3 p.m. on Saturday Truckee Meadows Fire District responded to a report of a brushfire in the Northern foothills of Washoe Valley just above Eastlake Boulevard.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office cites fourth illegal dumper in two weeks thanks to citizen's report

Another illegal dumper has been caught and cited thanks to an alert resident who witnessed the dumping and reported it to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

This is the fourth illegal dumper caught in the last two weeks thanks to the help of concerned citizens.

Invasive mussels intercepted at Tahoe boat inspection stations

STATELINE — Boat inspectors recently prevented two vessels from launching at Lake Tahoe and other regional lakes, after discovering infestations of aquatic invasive species. During mandatory inspections in Meyers and Truckee, Calif., inspectors found invasive mussels on both boats.
