Heading into Monday, Labor Day 2019, we're looking at continued sunny skies, with daytime highs in the low 90s. There's no better place than Virginia City for a parade, and the Comstock continues to honor those who use elbow grease to keep the gears of our great American way grinding. Thank you. Other activities include a Tahoe beach cleanup, art showings, swing dancing and an interfaith picnic at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Carson City, where folks of all religious stripes come together in fellowship and kindness. Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including HopeFest9 on Friday, dirt bike races at Fuji Park, a job fair at Eagle Valley Children's Home, and the final weekend of the Jazz and Beyond festival and Levitt AMP outdoor concert series at the Brewery Arts Center.

Led by an experienced nucleus of runners, the Carson High School cross country program has good reason for optimism for the start of a new season.

The Nevada State Library will feature author, professor and poet Lindsay Wilson at its Sept. 10 “Nevada in Small Bites” book talk series.

Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

CARSON CITY — To commemorate its historic 150-year anniversary, V&T Railway has introduced special anniversary trains running every Friday through the end of the season. Beginning Friday, Aug. 16, the Carson City to Virginia City train will feature re-enactments at the depot and during the 24-mile round-trip ride.

Join Muscle Powered for its monthly Trash Mob, with the next mob meetup set to cleanup the Historic Virginia & Truckee Trail.

For the Virginia & Truckee Railroad, the story of its future as part of Nevada’s living history will be guided by its illustrious 150-year past.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Seventy two players from all around northern Nevada gathered at the Carson City MAC Saturday, August 3, for good play, new friendships and to raise money towards building dedicated outdoor pickleball courts in the Carson City area.

UPDATE: Firefighters knocked down the Ophir Fire on Saturday and were in mop up phase. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch, the fire was around 15 acres. No structures were threatened.

Another illegal dumper has been caught and cited thanks to an alert resident who witnessed the dumping and reported it to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

This is the fourth illegal dumper caught in the last two weeks thanks to the help of concerned citizens.

STATELINE — Boat inspectors recently prevented two vessels from launching at Lake Tahoe and other regional lakes, after discovering infestations of aquatic invasive species. During mandatory inspections in Meyers and Truckee, Calif., inspectors found invasive mussels on both boats.
