Dealers, collectors, admirers and amateurs will find fun at the 2015 Carson City Mint Coin Show and Fair. Professionals will buy, sell and trade money and offer expertise in a lecture series during the two-day event Aug. 21-22.

How does a picnic sound? Head to the Capitol Grounds for an afternoon of music beginning with the Champagne Singers at 4:30 p.m. followed by the Reno Video Game Symphony. Bring a chair or blanket, something to snack on, and your friends and family. The Carson City Library is wrapping up its adult summer reading program with a special presentation by adventurer, photographer, cyclist Rick Gunn. Like, did you totally know that Clueless is playing at the Galaxy Theater tonight? Miss out on that? As if.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. Hot August Nights is off and running in Reno, but there’s no need to leave the valley for a good time. Tahoe Ridge Bistro and Winery is hosting its monthly ladies night. You won’t want to miss DJ Bobby G at Living the Good Life. The Brewery Arts Center Improv Workshop welcomes a special guest: instructor and actor, Michael Lewis. Dancers will want to head to El Charro for Salsa lessons or Beercade for their weekly Line Dancing Night.

Hot August Nights and warm August days have arrived. Beat the heat inside one of Carson City’s many art exhibits. The Nevada Artists Association has just begun their Photography Show. Head over to the Brewery Arts Center to see it. If you haven’t been to the Courthouse lately, Capital City Arts Initiative has done an incredible job of showcasing some of the unseen craftsmanship that our local manufacturers create on a regular basis. You’ll find Industrial Arts on the second floor. The arts meet engineering at the Carson City Library. Students from Harvard and MIT will be on-hand to teach kids about various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) principles as part of the Spokes America Learning Festival.

Sundays are a great day to hit up the Carson City Library now that it’s open seven days a week. A viewing of the movie Persepolis begins at 2 p.m. and is about a young girl during the Iran Revolution in the 1970s. Pop-up Storytime is great choice for younger patrons.

The Fair at Fuji Park and the Silver Dollar Classic at Mills Park are still going strong. While you’re at Mills Park, take a ride on the train: rides begin at noon. Genoa is a great place to spend an afternoon. This month’s Sweet Sippin Sunday features Tequila cocktails and music by Carson’s own, Janera Paxton of the Whitehats. Mozart lovers won’t want to miss TOCATTA at the Shepard in the Sky Church for their Mozart in the Mountains concert.

The weekend has arrived and it’s bringing a plethora of activity with it. Car lovers will want to head to the Silver Dollar Car Classic at the Max Casino, known as the Carson Station just a few days ago. The Classic moves to Mills Park for the weekend. If the Mustangs and Broncos you prefer are horses, rather than Fords, you’ll want to grab a ticket to the Bull Riding Competition at the State Fair. Carnival rides, circus performances, and live music will keep everyone entertained. Make sure to catch the shuttle from the Casino Fandango parking garage: parking at Fuji Park is extremely limited. ‘Break a leg’ to the cast of Peter Pan. Youth Theater Carson City opens tonight at the Community Center.

Jelly Bread is in town and playing a free show at Sassafras, and celebrate your July birthday at the Carson Cigar Bar with their monthly birthday bash.

Jazz fans can head to Sassafras for dinner and music. The outdoor patio at Firkin and Fox is the perfect place to listen to music and enjoy a locally crafted beer. It’s a wine walk weekend, the Nevada Fair is in town, and classic cars will be everywhere as the Silver Dollar Car Classic rolls into town. Seventy-five years ago today, Bugs Bunny made his cinematic debut. Plenty of other animals will be in the spotlight starting Thursday when the Nevada Fair hits Fuji Park. Head over to the Carson Visitor Center on North Carson St. for pre-sale tickets to Bulls and Broncs, the Tractor Pull, or a discounted wristband for a day at the carnival. What a crazy week in the Sierras! Afternoon thunderstorms for the last several days, flooding, hail, and even snow in Yosemite are definitely unusual for this time of year. The storms are expected to subside this weekend, so keep your fingers crossed for some sunshine.
