The sun is out more and the weather is warming up. With that, comes the need to protect against sunburn. Although the first sunburn of the season feels kind of nostalgic on my skin. I also realize that it’s a bad habit to develop.

Kirsten Yamaoka, 21, of Reno is missing. She was last seen on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017 when she left work early after falling ill. She spoke to her father on the morning of Feb. 23 and has not been heard from or seen since.

Carson City detectives identify California woman in credit card fraud and burglary

She was identified as Amanda Barrett, 31, of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Barrett also has an outstanding felony warrant out of Los Angeles County, Calif. Please do not approach Barrett and contact your local law enforcement agency if she is located.

The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

The Rockabilly Riot roars into town today and it’s bring cool cars, a tattoo expo, music, contests, pin-up girls, and so much more. Check it out at Mills Park and make sure to catch the talented officers competing in this year’s Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge while you’re there. The kids in town are getting a new Teen Center at the Boys and Girls Club: the ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. You’ll find author Mike White at the Nevada State Museum this evening. His presentation on the best backpacking trips in Nevada and California is part of the Francis Humphrey Lecture Series.

Motor Officer Challenge returns with action packed events Friday and Saturday at Mills Park

Motor officers from around the country return to Carson City this week to train and compete in the 13th annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge at Mills Park.

The event runs Thursday through Saturday at Mills Park with Thursday a practice day for the competitors. The big events that bring the most spectators and participants will be on Friday and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and feature music, vendors, food, demonstrations and contests.

Tattoo expo among events featured during Rockabilly Riot car show

With more than 50 booths featuring artists from across the West Coast, Rockabilly Riot’s Tattoo Expo this weekend in Carson City will highlight some of the region’s best ink.

“You’ll get a chance to be tattooed by someone you otherwise may not even know,” said Jeffery Williford, co-owner of the Ruby Lantern, which is sponsoring the expo. “Some of these guys have a waiting list of two to three weeks out. You have a better chance of actually seeing them here.”

Lyon County detectives release photos, suspect foul play in missing Dayton woman case

Lyon County Sheriff's Office detectives searching for the whereabouts of a missing Dayton area woman now believe there was foul play involved in her disappearance.

A search warrant was executed and several items of evidence has been seized this week from the residence of Toni Davis, 60, who has been missing since April 28. A forensics analysis is currently underway.

Column: Vietnam Veterans are loved

I was honored to attend and cover Saturday's Vietnam War Remembrance and Welcome Home ceremony near the Nevada Vietnam War Memorial at Mills Park.

While there, a television image suddenly came to mind of a Vietnam War veteran sitting alone at the counter of a cafe while a young boy and his mother paid attention to a uniformed service man who had just come in.

The scene was from a television spot paid for by moments.org, a production of the INSP network, entitled "Thank You For Your Service (A Moment of Truth)."

Rockabilly car show coming to Carson City in June

More than 550 rat rod cars are expected for Rockabilly Riot’s debut event in Carson City this June, tourism officials confirmed Tuesday.

“This is a four-day party wrapped around a car show and celebrating a culture,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau.
