Come and join us for our weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet in the parking lot at 5366 Snyder Ave. (in front of the Stewart Community Baptist Church) Water and closed-toe shoes required.

All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. CARSON CITY — Do you love Nevada history, and, more importantly, do you love sharing that knowledge with others? If so, the Nevada State Museum has a perfect opportunity.

The museum is recruiting for volunteers, who will get a multi-day in-depth jaunt through the museum’s collections and operations.

The Nevada State Museum was voted the best museum in rural Nevada by the readers of Nevada Magazine in 2018. It couldn’t have received that recognition without the cadre of volunteers who help out on a daily basis, said Director Myron Freedman.

CARSON CITY — The Stewart Indian School Preservation Alliance, in partnership with the Nevada Indian Commission, will be premiering a new documentary, “Stewart Indian School: Home of the Braves,” on Monday, Dec. 17 at the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno.

Though it would take some seriously intense research to prove the following, it is believed by many the Carson City community is the most supportive group of people in the country. Hyperbole, maybe, but Carson High School senior Nik Hylan, in fulfilling his graduation requirement, is asking the community to give a gift of blood and receive a free gift this holiday season.

The Stewart Indian School Preservation Alliance (SISPA) is proud to announce that tickets are now available to the Premiere Event of “Stewart Indian School: Home of the Braves,” Dec. 17 from 5-8 p.m.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Indian Commission’s 2018 American Indian Achievement Awards are coming up Nov. 17 and there are only a few days left to nominate potential award winners. The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, Oct. 12.

CARSON CITY — With blessings delivered in the native languages of the Paiute, Western Shoshone and Washoe tribes, a new chapter in story of Stewart Indian School commenced on Wednesday.

What a day. The Concert Under the Stars brings Jefferson Starship to the outdoor stage at the Brewery Arts Show. Get there early to peruse the silent auction items and food vendors; the annual fundraising benefit for the Greenhouse Project is always the talk of the town. The Greatest Showman on Earth makes an appearance at the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch: it’s Chautauqua night, and Doug Mishler will be portraying “Circus Showman P. T. Barnum.” The Stewart Indian School in east Carson City has history reaching into the early days of our state.

CARSON CITY — Spiritual leaders from the Paiute, Washoe and Western Shoshone tribes will hold a special blessing ceremony at the site of the future Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum this Wednesday, July 11.

A report updating the growth management projections for Carson City has been released by the Carson City Community Development Department, concluding that build-out of residential master plan areas will not exceed the city's build-out population.

A long line of Native American dancers dressed in ceremonial costumes honored the sacred circle of the parade grounds Friday evening to open the annual Stewart Indian School Father's Day Pow Wow, a tradition that dates back more than a quarter century.

This is going to be an epic Fathers’ Day weekend. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Carson City again welcomes the Fathers’ Day PowWow to the Stewart Indian School Campus for a weekend of dancing, vendors and crafts, and community. Now, when I say bicycle invasion, I’m not exaggerating. The Carson City Off-Road hosted by Epic Rides brings mountain bike enthusiasts from all over to compete in our hills. You’ll find downtown road-closures to make way for the race routes, a bike expo, beer garden, and a music festival on Saturday. Head up to Western Nevada College to welcome the Journey of Hope Bike Tour.

She’s a grand ole flag, and there will be two ceremonies to recognize the stars and stripes in Carson City today. At 10 a.m. you can join the Nevada National Guard at the Veterans Memorial on the Capitol Grounds for presentation of the colors, speakers, and even cake for the US Army’s anniversary. You’ll find the Elks Club honoring our flag at 3 p.m. The public are invited to both events. The Army isn’t the only birthday you’ll find today; Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery celebrates its seventh year with an artist reception and new work from Denise Jenkins.

CARSON CITY — This weekend’s Stewart Indian School Father’s Day Powwow is not only a tribute to generations of Native American customs and traditions, it’s also a glimpse into the future of the Stewart facility.

Family, friends and fellow veterans gathered this Memorial Day at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City to pay respect by honoring buried veterans and fallen military.

The Marine Corps League held its annual Memorial Day celebration of Native American veterans Monday at the Stewart Indian School Cemetery in Carson City.

Today we honor those who have not only served, but who gave all in defense of our country. A tribute ceremony at Lone Mountain Cemetery for our Nevadan veterans will begin at 1 p.m. A memorial for our Native American veterans begins at 10 a.m. at the cemetery across the street from the Stewart Indian School. The 10th annual barbecue at Evergreen Gene’s welcomes all comers, and veterans will get 25 percent any of the fun things they find in the shop. Read on below for more happenings today.

Memorial Day weekend is often thought of as the kick-off to summer, but in Northern Nevada we know that the weather is a fickle creature. The weather should be dryer and warmer as the weekend progresses but have back-up plans for your bar-be-que, just in case. From the Downtown Carson City Ghost Walk to the Rockin’ Rib Fest at Casino Fandango, a day hike with Muscle Powered to the Spring Blinky Man night-time costumed bike pub crawl – this weekend is chock-full of fun for locals and visitors alike, for the young and young-at-heart.

Volunteer families and veterans joined forces Friday, placing hundreds of American flags over the headstones of buried veterans and fallen military Friday at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

We’re in for another gray day, but that won’t affect the fun to be had. Bike to Work Week always ends in a big bash. Head down to McFadden Plaza, even if you didn’t take the challenge personally. You’ll find live music, raffles, bike games, and too much fun. Western Nevada Musical Theater Company returns for another weekend of Singin’ in the Rain at the Bob Boldrick Theater. Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours are waiting to entertain you at the Brewery Arts Center. There may be some balcony seating still available, but tickets are very limited.

The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, through the Nevada Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation grant program, has awarded $950,000 to 15 historic and cultural preservation projects throughout Nevada, including the Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City.

National cable and satellite television network C-SPAN is returning to the Nevada state capital this Wednesday and Thursday, April 11-12 to engage the community through interactive demonstrations of its public service resources, a C-SPAN press release said.

CARSON CITY — Hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers, artists, craftsmen and cultural enthusiasts will converge on Carson City June 15-17 for the annual Stewart Father’s Day Powwow, June 15-17.

A comprehensive housing study released Wednesday by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority breaks down Carson City's housing shortage as it stands today, but several new developments either underway or being planned in Carson City should put a dent into the demand, said NRHA Deputy Director Bill Brewer.

If your new year’s resolution includes volunteering, the Muscle Powered Trash Mob is a quick, but mighty, helping hand. Learn about the future of the Stewart Indian School Historic Site during an encore lecture at the Nevada State Museum. Flashback to Beatle-mania at the Brewery Arts Center or karaoke at Battleborn Social are just some of your nightlife options.
