Carson City Parks Foundation Holds an Open House at the Wungnema House this Sunday

The year is nearly over and winter is upon us; avoid an early onset of cabin fever, and stretch your legs by coming out to the Wungnema House for the last open house of 2019 on Sunday, Dec. 29 and learn about some of unique and enduring contributions a family of Native Americans made to our area. Access to the Wungnema House is off Saliman Road, opposite Carson High School.

Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

Stewart Indian School gym begins preservation efforts; Nevada State Prison struggles to open

Carson City is getting better at preserving its history after losing some of its most iconic structures to neglect and disuse. Think the V&T Roundhouse and Children’s Home, though there were many more historic structures that met the wrecking ball ultimately changing how Carson Street looks today.

Events, happenings around the Carson City region during Father's Day weekend

Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

Carson City Memorial Day Service ceremony photos

2019 Stewart Father's Day Powwow to feature 200 dancers

The Stewart Father's Day Powwow will be held June 14-16, 2019. Come celebrate Father's Day Weekend with the entire family and experience American Indian Heritage, history and pride at the Stewart Father's Day Powwow.

The former Stewart Indian School in Carson City will come alive with over 200 dancers, over 40 arts and crafts vendors and Indian Tacos. Admission is free. Click on flier for more information.

The Stewart Father's Day Entry is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at noon. This is an alcohol and drug-free event.

Good morning Carson City and welcome to the last day of winter. It is Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Nevada bill brings Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum to the brink of reality

Nevada Governor Kenny Guinn appointed Sherry Rupert to be executive director of the Nevada Indian Commission in September of 2005. Not too many years after Rupert’s appointment, plans began forming to develop a cultural center and museum on the campus of the Stewart Indian School, just a few miles south of Carson City, and AB44 is a part of the ongoing effort to bring that vision to reality.

Nevada State Legislature: A look ahead at week 4

CARSON CITY — A slew of interesting bills and presentations are ahead this week. A bill to establish the Stewart Indian School museum is on the move Monday. Also on Monday, lawmakers will consider raising the maximum age of a “runaway or homeless youth” from 18 to 24. A physician assisted suicide bill will be heard Monday afternoon.

Come and join us for our weekly one hour walks to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City! Meet in the parking lot at 5366 Snyder Ave. (in front of the Stewart Community Baptist Church) Water and closed-toe shoes required.

All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. If it rains, snows, or trail conditions are not safe, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.
