Carson City Parks Foundation Holds an Open House at the Wungnema House this Sunday

Access to the Wungnema House is off Saliman Road, opposite Carson High School.

Stewart Indian School gym begins preservation efforts; Nevada State Prison struggles to open

Think the V&T Roundhouse and Children’s Home, though there were many more historic structures that met the wrecking ball ultimately changing how Carson Street looks today.

There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. Open Mic Night at A to Zen will cap-off an eventful Friday heading into the weekend.

2019 Stewart Father's Day Powwow to feature 200 dancers

The former Stewart Indian School in Carson City will come alive with over 200 dancers, over 40 arts and crafts vendors and Indian Tacos. Admission is free. Click on flier for more information.
The Stewart Father's Day Entry is at 7 p.m. on Friday, Saturday at 1 p.m., and Sunday at noon. This is an alcohol and drug-free event.

Expect mostly sunshine and cloudy skies today as a weather system is expected to move into the region later tonight bringing rain showers to the lower valleys and some snow to the Sierra for the first day of Spring. Nevada bill brings Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum to the brink of reality
Submitted by editor on Tue, 02/26/2019 - 6:13pmNevada Governor Kenny Guinn appointed Sherry Rupert to be executive director of the Nevada Indian Commission in September of 2005. Not too many years after Rupert’s appointment, plans began forming to develop a cultural center and museum on the campus of the Stewart Indian School, just a few miles south of Carson City, and AB44 is a part of the ongoing effort to bring that vision to reality.
Nevada State Legislature: A look ahead at week 4

A bill to establish the Stewart Indian School museum is on the move Monday. Also on Monday, lawmakers will consider raising the maximum age of a “runaway or homeless youth” from 18 to 24. A physician assisted suicide bill will be heard Monday afternoon.

All walks are 1 to 2 miles with duration of 1 hour with usually negligible elevation gain, and frequently on paved or smooth paths. If it rains, snows, or trail conditions are not safe, meet at the Multi-Purpose Athletic Center (MAC) at 1860 Russell Way.
