September 20, 1948 – January 2, 2017
Helen Elaine Templeton, 68, After a long battle with cancer, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 2, 2017. She leaves behind her husband, John Templeton of Carson City, Nevada, brother Randy Cox, her children and bonus-children Carla (Tom), Heidi (Mike), Landon (Rachael), Mitty (John), Bonnie (Herb), and Glenn (Kim). Helen’s life was also filled with love from her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The Silver and Snowflakes Festival includes carols, sleigh rides, hot chocolate, and of course, the lighting of the Capitol. Don’t forget to head to the First Presbyterian Church for the Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. You’ll get a handmade, hand painted ceramic bowl to keep and lots of yummy food to keep you warm. I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Dayton Intermediate Theatre features Feb. 19 Movie Night as part of fundraiser

Virginia City and Reno honor veterans Wednesday with annual Veterans Day parades

Veterans Day Parades will be held in Virginia City and Reno on Wednesday. At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Virginia City holds its annual Veterans Day Parade to honor those who have served and currently serve our country.

Have you picked your pony yet? The Kentucky Derby is today, but that is far from the only thing running today. Chili on the Comstock is hosting their inaugural Fun with the Runs 5K Saturday at 10 a.m. The 1926 Edwards Motor Car is running, too, and ready for rides at the Nevada Railroad Museum. The wine walk is always a good time, and with Mother’s Day next weekend, it can’t hurt to peruse the shops before you run out of time to pick the perfect gift.

    Dayton Spaghetti fundraiser tonight to pay for free medical clinics coming in October

    Js’ Old Town Bistro in Dayton will host a community fundraising Spaghetti Feed, tonight, Wednesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. to help fund the Remote Area Medical events coming to the area later this year. The health clinics, slated for October, are free to the public. Tonight's fundraiser is designed to help offset the costs.

    The sun is shining, the flowers blooming, the birds chirping, the wind gusting, and Carson City is hopping! Easter fun can be found this weekend at the annual EGGstravaganza at Carson Tahoe Medical Center, the Children’s Museum, the Carson Mall, and the Brewery Arts Center.

    Head over to Mills Park for the Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration, complete with military vehicles, exhibits, and more. For demonstrations from soldiers with an even older history, the Nevada Civil War Volunteers will be in Dayton Saturday.

    It’s a good weekend to be a kid: the Kerak Shrine Circus is in town! Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.

    For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

    Every week (for the last two years) I have scoured the internet, followed the pages of local businesses and organizations, searched website calendars, and compiled a list of anything and everything going on in this community.

    Fundraiser for the Silverada Little League at Js’ Old Town Bistro

    Js’ Old Town Bistro will host a Spaghetti Feed on Tuesday, June 17 from 5 – 8pm to benefit the Dayton’s Silverada Little League. $15 buys a complete spaghetti dinner, and $10 goes directly to the sports program.

    Spaghetti fundraiser at Js' Old Town Bistro nets $1,200 for Lyon County health project

    A spaghetti feed at Js' Old Town Bistro in Dayton Wednesday raised $1,200 for the Medical Outreach Response Event in May, which helps Lyon County residents get needed medical, vision and dental care.

    MORE will take place Friday and Saturday, May 9 and 10 in Silver Springs.

    Fundraiser for Tiffani Barber on Saturday at Highway 50 East Pizza Factory

    There will be a fundraiser Saturday, Feb. 22, for Tiffani Barber, a Carson City area cancer patient, at Pizza Factory on Highway 50 beginning at noon.

    Last year Tiffani was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.

    Tiffani is well known in Carson City for her beautiful contagious smile and upbeat personality. She is a hairstylist at Salon Chocolat, a Crossfit coach at Carson City Crossfit, but most of all she’s a daughter, sister and a friend.
