'Imagine Not Being Able to Read' posed as a question for Leisure Hour Club members

The Leisure Hour Club will also announce the donation of $500 to the Literacy Volunteers at the event in recognition of the organization’s outstanding work.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "High School Pic(ks) 2018" at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

Thirty-two artists from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Tuesday, April 24, 5 – 7pm. The free exhibition is available to the public from April 15 – July 9, 2018, Mondays - Fridays, 8am – noon and 1-4pm.

River Wranglers engages local youth in watershed education

River Wranglers (RW), a youth-oriented watershed education organization based in Carson City, has just wrapped up its fall season.

RW’s Education and Outreach Coordinator Julia Keane led students through different programs that focus specifically on the Carson River Watershed.

Keane came on board in October of 2017 as an AmeriCorps Member from the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership (SNAP).

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. Army veteran, WNC nursing student earns Nevada Regents’ Scholar Award

A military career showed Daniel Lear that he wanted to spend his life helping others. Adult life has taken Lear on a few twists and turns, but it hasn’t changed his primary goal to assist people. That desire is closer to becoming a reality as a second-year nursing student at Western Nevada College in Carson City.

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

Storey County candidate for sheriff is veteran Carson City law officer

A 28-year-law enforcement veteran and a sheriff’s sergeant in Carson City has entered into the 2018 Storey County Sheriff’s Office race.

Sgt. Mike Cullen, who has spent the past 24 years with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and has served as a sergeant since 2003, also spent 4 years as a correctional officer at Nevada State Prison and was a reserve deputy with CCSO from 92-94.

This weekend may feel like it goes by a little quicker than usual, and it’s not your imagination. In the wee hours of Sunday morning we spring forward into Daylight Savings Time. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada is teaming up with NDOT and the Head Injury Association of N. NV for a Brain Safety Day and free bicycle helmet giveaway. Join up with our Parks and Recreation Department for a guided walk at Riverview Park. The Experimental Aircraft Association is holding a Young Eagles event today, so if your kid loves airplanes, you won’t want to miss it.
