Auditions for Senior Follies
Submitted by admin on Sat, 02/11/2012 - 4:19pmThe Carson City Senior Citizens Center will be holding open auditions for the 2012 Senior Follies production of “Those Delightful Decades.” This production will be co-directed by Norma Conway and Carla Wilson.
This annual production is a fundraiser for the senior meals programs here in Carson City. If you are age 35 or older and would like to be a part of this wonderful fundraising project we would love to have you share your talents with us. It is a variety show consisting of musical and comedy acts ranging from the 1920’s through today.

Medicare’s 2012 Open Enrollment Drug And Health Plan Data Now Accessible On Line
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Mon, 10/03/2011 - 12:44pmCARSON CITY – In advance of a new, earlier annual enrollment period, people with Medicare can now begin reviewing plan benefit and cost information via a popular web-based Medicare Plan Finder operated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The plan finder lets beneficiaries, their families, trusted representatives, and senior program advocates to look at all local drug and health plan options that are available for the 2012 benefit year. It became available Saturday.

Secretary of State Investigators Arrest Southern Nevada Man in Multi-State Ponzi Scheme

The criminal complaint filed by Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto charges that Seibt was essentially operating a Ponzi scheme that victimized investors in Nevada and several other states.

Gov. Sandoval Signs Bill Addressing Proper Burial Of Unclaimed Veterans’ Remains

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval today signed a bill requiring funeral directors to report to the Office of Veterans’ Services if they obtain possession of unclaimed human remains they know or reasonably believe to be that of a veteran.
Sandoval signed Assembly Bill 124 in a ceremony before a full house of veterans at the Kit Carson VFW Post 3726 in the capital.

Lawmaker Questions Sandoval Plan To Securitize Insurance Tax
Submitted by admin on Tue, 01/25/2011 - 10:55amCARSON CITY – A proposal in Gov. Brian Sandoval’s budget to raise $190 million in revenue by securitizing the state’s insurance premium tax was called “questionable fiscal discipline” today by Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford.
Sandoval Chief of Staff Heidi Gansert said the proposal is a “last resort” to be employed if needed to maintain essential services in health and human services and public education.
Burning Man kicks in with cash

Black Rock City, LLC, the organization that hosts the annual Burning Man event, has announced it will donate $97,200 in proceeds from ice sales at the 2010 event to various charitable, art and service organizations in Northern Nevada.
Proscenium Players offer a menu of mystery this weekend

Some pre-show music will be offered by Sweet Vocal Renditions featuring Sweet Molly McGee. Irish fare dinner begins at 6:30 with the show starting at 7:15 p.m.
Prizes will be given to the firs three audience members who solve mystery.

Cost to enter is $12 for singles and $20 for couples or groups. Admission is $5 adults, $3 for any student with school ID, and $3 for youth and senior citizens. Children under age 5 are admitted free. All proceeds will help fund WNC student scholarships.

Speaking at the Carson City Senior Center, Rombardo related his own positive experiences with his grandmother as a motivation for the effort to make sure senior citizens in this community have access to help to escape abusive situations.
Carson City celebrates $3.6 million senior housing development with ceremony

Building will begin June 14 on a $3.6 million, 42-unit senior apartment complex in Carson City, designed to help close the gap in a shortage of affordable retirement housing here.
Carson City Sheriff’s Protective Association endorses Guimont

Of the 75 ballots cast, and 60 returned, Guimont racked up 45 votes, or 86.5 percent of the actual votes cast, followed by incumbent sheriff Ken Furlong with four votes and challenger Bob White, a sheriff's office captain, with three votes. Of the returned ballots, five were marked No Candidate and three of the votes were not counted because they were not sealed.
