During the annual “State of the City” address Friday at Gold Dust West, Carson City’s Mayor Bob Crowell gave his last speech of its kind, as he is retiring at the end of this year.

The State of the City address is a way community members can be kept up to date on everything going on in our capital city, including achievements, challenges, and everything in between.

Updates included achievements such as the completion of the water pipeline from Douglas County to Carson City, the Complete Streets Project, Tesla’s grant for the Carson City School District, the first new park opening in 12 years, the opening of the Disc Golf course, and more.

Carson City Republican Women's Club will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at Casino Fandango. The guest speaker is GOP Assemblywoman Dr. Robin Titus who will address the issues facing rural and urban Nevada as the remaining new laws that were passed in the last session go into effect.

Social hour begins at 11:00 a.m. and the lunch meeting at 11:30 a.m. Reservations are required by Friday, January 17 and can be made by EVITE, by contacting Lori at 775-220-3646 or by calling Gale at 775-241-2054. The cost for the lunch is $25.00/person.

Heading into the first weekend of 2020, there are several activities around the Carson City region lined over the next three days. Events include the Winter Round Up Run at Centennial Park, the Carson City Library 2020 Winter Reading Challenge, plus you can take a post-New Year's stroll while the weather is nice during Saturday's Downtown Carson City Wine Walk. RENO — January is National Radon Action Month, and University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Radon Education Program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans from Jan. 1 through Feb. 29. Radon test kits are available at Extension offices and partnering locations, as well as at free presentations, statewide.

CARSON CITY — Meals on Wheels Carson City joins the 2019 Subaru Share the Love event as a member of Meals on Wheels America — one of four national Share the Love charitable partners supported through the campaign. From Nov. 14, 2019, through Jan. 2, 2020, Subaru of America will donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased to the customer's choice of participating charities.

Carson City TRIAD presents Fire and Fall Prevention for Older Adults, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. The next meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors will take place on Thursday, Nov. 7 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 East William Street.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the second annual Evening with Divas in Carson City, a Día de Muertos celebration at the Nevada State Museum, Nevada Artists Association’s 40th anniversary celebration, paranormal ghost investigations in Virginia City, a pie baking contest in Gardnerville and much more!

Going into the eve of Halloween, teeth will be chattering as the weather calls for sunny skies but with a chill in the air and daytime temperatures in the upper 40s around the capital city. Events around town Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019 include a Halloween costume walk at Riverview Park in Carson City, a "trick or trunk" event in Dayton, art showings, storytelling at the Carson City Library and more.

The ghosts and zombies and costume super heroes will be out and about now through Thursday, either at organized events or Halloween night trick or treating around the Carson City area, including the Carson Mall, throughout downtown and at the Governor's Mansion.

Carson City based In Plain Sight Marketing was honored with nine awards for excellence in public relations and community excellence by the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at the organization’s annual event last week.

The Carson City Senior Center is hosting a jewelry sale benefiting Meals On Wheels Carson City on Thursday, Sept. 26, and Friday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the lobby of the senior center at 911 Beverly Drive. The two-day sale is open to the public and features gently used jewelry items donated from the community.

Heading into the first day fall, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 we are looking at cool temperatures as a cold front passes through before a warming trend starts up Tuesday. Events include an estate planning seminar at the Carson City Senior Center, a guest presentation by the executive editor of the Reno Gazette-Journal at Round Table Pizza in Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. Heading into Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2019, events around the capital city include a TRIAD presentation for Carson City residents on the new Smart911 system, a discussion of the sheriff's office Mobile Outreach Safety Team at a meeting of the Carson City Republican Women organization, a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a Fat Tuesday Business Networking event at J's Bistro in Dayton, family craft night at the library and more.

The public is welcome to the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Dr., from 2:00 to 3:00 pm for a talk by Nevada Appeal columnist Guy Farmer on the subject of "the Nevada Gaming Control Board's revoking Frank Sinatra's gaming license". The talk is sponsored by the Carson City branch of RPEN (Representing Public Employees of Nevada) as part of their first Tuesday monthly meeting programs. RPEN protects retiree PERS and PEBP benefits.

Carson City TRIAD will host 911 System: How to Prepare for First Responders, a Smart911 presentation, on Tuesday, Sept. 17, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
