Welcome to July, Carson City. How do you want to start out the month? For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

FRIDAY:

The weekend isn’t over, but it’s beginning to wind down. Catch the Pet Parade as part of Dayton’s Oodles of Noodles Festival. Everyone is welcome to join in at the BMX Track at the Livermore Sports Complex: Olympic Day means free racing and no membership required. Head to Eagle Valley Golf Course for a free Family Golf Clinic.

SUNDAY:

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget. Don’t think that’s all our valley has to offer, though, keep reading for all this weekend’s fun.

SATURDAY:

There’s a riot at Mills Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t the kind of riot you want to avoid: the Rockabilly Riot has roared into town and offers rad cars, drag races, live music, a burlesque show and tattoo expo. Intermingled with the pompadours and pin-up girls are hundreds of law enforcement officers in town to show off their skills at the Annual Extreme Motor Officer Training Challenge. Tonight you’ll have to choose where you go for free music: the street dance at Jimmy G’s, Gold Dust West, Westside Pour House, the Fandango, Nugget, or Max Casino.

The monthly Open Forum at the Carson City Senior Center will focus on Question 1 - Nevada Background Checks for Gun Purchases Initiative.

We meet at 10:30am in the Tahoe Room. Question 1 will be on the November Ballot.

We will look at the overview of the initiative, then will open discussion on the issue.

It's Friday, Carson City. Epic Rides descends on our valley, and I must say, it is one epic event. Beware that quite a few of our downtown streets will be closed and there will be bikes everywhere. Live music can be found at a stage on Musser Street, the Brewery Arts Center, and most all of our casinos. A huge welcome goes out to those in town for the Annual Pow Wow at Stewart Indian School. Don't forget that Fathers' Day is Sunday: plenty of our local shops have something just perfect for the man in your life.

FRIDAY:

The weekend winds down Sunday, but not with a whimper. The Fair has one more day of fun to offer. Take to the track with Carson City BMX at the Livermore Sports Complex. Relax in the shade of the Governor’s Mansion: the Carson City Symphony’s “Pops Party” concert is free to attend and a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Read on for even more happenings.

• Party at the Pavilion Car Show with the Freaks of Nature at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park (8am-2pm; awards 12pm)

Let’s go to the Fair, Carson City. Mills Park is hopping with activity: a carnival, car show, exhibits, music, and a return of the Rendezvous. If you have kids, don’t miss this month’s Young Eagle Flights at the Carson Airport, just make sure to sign up by 8 a.m. Start your day at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, and don’t forget to make your artistic mark on a handcrafted bowl for the Empty Bowls event. Bike Month is only a third of the way through, but Bike Week in Carson City is coming to a close. For those taking their bike to work today, Comma Coffee and LA Bakery are offering a cup of joe on your way. Pedal your way to the Max Casino for the Grand Opening of the Black Bear Diner; you’re going to need your strength to get through this day full of fun stuff to do. The Nevada State Fair is in full swing and a street dance at the Pavilion starts at 6 p.m.

Hold onto your hats, Carson City, summer has arrived with a bang. Bikes, brews, bulls and broncs are just a few of the things you’ll find on this event summary. Whether you are looking for adult fun, family fun, art, music, shopping, or something outdoorsy, look no further: Carson City and her neighboring valleys are packed full of fun.

• Reno-Tahoe Odyssey (178 mile relay race; begins at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno; legs 24-28 run through Carson City)

What a week. Granted, it was a short one, but school got out for the summer and we saw the weather go from a wintery chill to summery hot. Get your early primary vote in this afternoon, then stick around for the Artist Reception for the new exhibit in the CCAI Gallery upstairs in the Courthouse Building. Live music can be found at our bigger casinos, and a dj will keep you on the dance floor at Jimmy G’s, Alatte in the Carson Nugget, and Living the Good Life. Sassafras welcomes Bryan McPherson to the stage at 8 pm; you’ll want to get there earlier to take full advantage of their menu.

PLEASE NOTE THE LOCATION CHANGE FOR THE LYON COUNTY REPUBLICAN CENTRAL COMMITTEE MEETING to be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 will be at the Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road, Dayton. Do you love animals? Do you want to help them? Do you want to have fun doing it? If your answer is yes then we invite you to come and play CASI bingo. This month we will be celebrating Fathers Day and the start of summer.

Doors open at 11:30 AM and the first game starts at 12:30 PM. Buy in is $10 and extra packs are $5. Special games are $1 each. We also have a 50/50 raffle and door prizes too. Question 2 - The legalization of recreational marijuana will be the topic of discussion at the Open Forum at the Carson Senior Center on Friday, June 3, at 10:30am in the Tahoe Room. There will be an informational power point presentation followed by a discussion on the issue. All community members are welcome at the event. This is a very important voting issue for the future of Nevada!!

A few days left of school, a few days left of May: summer is knocking on the door and insisting to be let in. If only it would bring some sunshine with it, we’d be set. Get the weekend started with a good time downtown: Stereo Galaxy at Westside Pour House, comedy at the Nugget, and a DJ at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Party 80s style at Whiskey Tavern’s karaoke party. Minden kicks off a summer of Concerts in the Park tonight with a tribute to the Beatles.

It’s a big day for the stage in Carson City. Under the lights of the Performance Hall at the Brewery Art Center, the four primary candidates for Carson City Mayor and for State Assembly District 40 will participate in a forum hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. Get to know the people you will see on the June Ballot. At the Bob Boldrick Theater, the Carson High Musical Theater Ensemble will perform for their last time this school year. If you’d like to overcome your inhibitions about public speaking or just improve your skills: the Toastmasters may be the group for you.

You can probably take ‘beach day’ off of your agenda. Spring has been briefly usurped by a blustery chill. Grab a coat and hit the town anyway. The early spring farmers market downtown, the Cops and Kids event at the Sheriff’s Department, and the Annual Relay for Life at Mills Park are still a good time. Friday! We have survived the workweek, and for the students of Western Nevada College, the semester. Kick up your heels and enjoy yourselves tonight. Enjoy open mic at A to Zen or dance performances at Comma Coffee. Ready to have some fun? Virginia City’s Chili on the Comstock Cook-off goes on all weekend. For some healthier fare, hit up the Spring Farmers Market downtown. Go fly a kite at Dangberg Home Historic Park, just past Douglas High School on Highway 88; their ‘Something in the Wind’ Celebration is both Saturday and Sunday. Don’t forget to leave non-perishable food by your mailbox: the annual ‘Stamp Out Hunger’ food drive is today. There’s nothing unlucky about this Friday the Thirteenth. Spring is in full bloom, the sun is shining, and the weekend is hours away. Beers and Brats returns to Fuji Park; the girls of Nevada Sharks Fastpitch look forward to seeing you. Upstairs in the ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center, a special show featuring Pioneer High School students’ art begins at 5 p.m. Enjoy a night on the town with live music at the Fandango, Max Casino, Bella Fiore, Westside Pour House, and Glen Eagles. Today’s sky has something special going on. A transition of Mercury across the sun occurs from sunrise until about noon. Please do not attempt to watch it without protective eyewear (sunglasses are not enough.) Head to the WNC Observatory to take a look, or watch it online HERE. Early risers can also take advantage of a chat with Supervisor Jim Shirk at Grandma Hattie’s.

Much love to the Mothers in our valley, and those that we love like Mothers. Treat that special lady to a day at the Carson Hot Springs. She gets to ride free with a child at the RSVP Spring Carnival. Travel to Virginia City and back on the historic Virginia and Truckee Steam Train. Brunch, bingo, and BMX racing are just a few of the other things that Sunday has to offer.

I am not even going to attempt guessing what weather we have in store. The west side of the Sierras are notoriously unpredictable. You are much better off betting on the Kentucky Derby; and the Firkin and Fox is just the place to cheer on your favorite horse.

Nothing will rain on our parade, Carson City. In addition to the monthly wine walk, the weekend offers a carnival, train rides, the Kentucky Derby, Mother’s Day and more. Tonight, Western Nevada Musical Theater Company debuts their spring musical ‘42nd Street.’ Find improv at the Brewery Arts Center or Comedy at the Carson Nugget. Drinking with Clowns hits the stage at Sassafras and Motown is on the menu at Living the Good Life. Food with friends is in order at Silver City’s Community Dinner Night or at A to Zen’s first ‘Fancy Friday’ open mic night.

It’s the final weekend of the Proscenium Players production of Harvey; get ready for a great show. A “Salute to Spring” will be the theme of the 31st annual RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park in Carson City.

It all begins on Thursday, May 5, with Dollar Night, where every ride is just $1. The fun continues at the carnival on Friday and throughout the weekend, when Wold Amusements Carnival has special all-day ride passes for $30.

What to do on a Wednesday? The tiny little town of Silver City on the way to Virginia City has an amazing arts community: resident artist Scott MacLeod has his final sculpture workshop this afternoon: the found object ship he’s building is incredible. Feed your soul and your belly with music and great food at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or Living the Good Life. Sing your heart out with J and M Productions at Crossroads Lounge’s karaoke night. Let some classic cinema into your life with a big screen viewing of ‘On the Waterfront’ at the Galaxy Theater.
