Carson City employment figures for November remained unchanged since October 2020 with the trade, transportation, and utilities sector growing the most by 100 jobs, according to a Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation monthly employment report.

CARSON CITY — Employment in Nevada increased over the month by 9,200 jobs as the State continues to recover. Jobs remain below typical levels; Nevada has 109,500 fewer jobs than in November 2019, for an annual job growth rate of -7.7 percent according to the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation’s November 2020 economic report.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. Many in Carson City do everything they can to help the less fortunate, and those opportunities never cease being opportunities. With this in mind, the holidays are here, the semester at Carson High School is almost over, Christmas vacation, also known as winter break, begins Dec. 19, and there is another opportunity to be generous for those who have plenty.

While Christmas tree cutting permits sold out in the Tahoe Basin almost as soon as they were available, with 2,000 permits being snatched up by Nov. 17, not all is lost if you've decided to brave the wilderness to cut down your very own festive tree.

Partnership Carson City, founded to develop a healthy community, is showing appreciation for Carson City’s teachers and senior citizens with a school supply and decorations giveaway. JOANN Fabrics and Crafts generously donated several boxes of seasonal holiday decorations and PCC is including an assortment of school supplies available for use.

Airlines have added a blend of new seasonal and year-round flights at Reno-Tahoe International while the airport has added extensive measures to help keep customers safe who need to travel this year.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin selling Christmas tree permits online beginning Monday, Nov. 16.

CARSON CITY — The Salvation Army is having a job fair on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. The Salvation Army will be hiring seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives and Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution.

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit has begun closing recreational facilities for the winter season. Seasonal closures apply to many National Forest recreation sites in the Tahoe Basin including beaches, campgrounds, picnic areas and forest roads.

Retailers in Nevada and throughout the United States are ramping up hiring campaigns for the all-important holiday shopping season. In the Silver State, the Retail Association of Nevada estimates retailers will boost hiring by 4,700 positions during the holiday shopping period.

Beginning Nov. 20, Delta airlines will offer non-stop service to Los Angeles International Airport three times daily, connecting Reno to multiple destinations in the U.S. and internationally. The new LAX flights mark Delta’s return to the market for the first time since August 2008.

RENO — In time for the holidays, Alaska Airlines will add new service between Reno-Tahoe International and Palm Springs and Los Angeles beginning Dec. 17.

The 2020 pine nut harvest season kicks off on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Both agencies are working together to ensure the public is safely harvesting pine nuts and aware of the regulations.

CARSON CITY — Single lane closures will take place on U.S. 50 between Carson City and Spooner summit beginning July 30 as the Nevada Department of Transportation wraps up a project to reduce roadside erosion and help preserve water quality.

Carson City, Reno and Las Vegas had positive rates of job growth in June, according to a report Tuesday issued by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. The report highlights the effects of businesses reopening across Nevada after the statewide pandemic shut down over spring.

Southwest Airlines will begin offering seasonal, daily, non-stop service between Reno and Seattle on a 143-seat Boeing 737 aircraft, according to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

Carson City's newest restaurant and bar, Piazza Bar, is open for business on McFadden Plaza in Carson City.
