Holiday pottery art demonstration, show Saturday at Carson City Chamber

On Saturday, Dec. 14, Linda Ritter, artist and owner of Pinyon Pottery, will demonstrate the art of pottery making between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. bringing in her pottery wheel to the Carson City Chamber of Commerce, 1900 S. Carson Street. Many of her art pieces will be on display and for sale, just in time for the holidays.

Senator Square: Carson City Schools Orchestra students prepare for Holiday Concert

The Orchestra Program of Carson City School District is holding its Holiday Concert Dec. 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Just the idea of a concert in Carson City is exciting enough, but it gets even better because this musical event will cost audiences absolutely nothing except a little time and effort getting there. Admission is free.

Festival of Lights, Project Empty Bowls, Santa train and more: Carson City region readies for festive weekend

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! Cancer Recovery: Friends of Willow Bill host fundraiser Sunday at Carson City's A to Zen

Observant travelers in Northern Nevada are reporting numerous reindeer sightings along the 85 mile stretch of US 395 between Bordertown, on the north, and Lake Topaz, on the south.

The Willow Reindeer herd now has 3,000 individually crafted works of art. Each reindeer has been signed by the local elementary students that have created it over the past 22 years. With an average of 20 students per class, there have been over 60,000 local children involved in the massive local art project.

Events around Carson City for Thursday, Dec. 5

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

Carson City neighborhood has experienced flooding for 50 years, a solution is now in sight

A 50-year-old flooding issue in a Carson City neighborhood could finally see a solution with the “North Carson Area Drainage Plan” proposed by Carson City Public Works.

According to Robert Fellows, P.E., Chief Stormwater Engineer for Public Works, an issue involving flooding or “ponding” in a particular Carson City neighborhood has been on the books as an issue since Carson City was still Ormsby County, going back to the 1970s.

Carson City School Board to discuss potential solution to middle school overcrowding

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 26 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

A discussion and possible action will be on the table for proposed capital projects as supported by the facilities master plan committee, including construction of classrooms at Eagle Valley Middle School intended to alleviate student overcrowding at Carson Middle School, in an estimated amount not to exceed $8.2 million, which will be financed by the sale of the 2019B school bonds.

Fundraiser tonight in Dayton, Saturday in Carson City for young girl battling brain tumor

Tonight, (Wednesday night) in Dayton, the Sutro Elementary School Boosters Club will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for a student, Maliya Gafford, who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. A fundraiser is also planned for this Saturday in Carson City.

The dinner tonight is from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Sutro Elementary School multipurpose room, 190 Dayton Village Pkwy, Dayton.

The cost is $5. There will be a raffle, silent auction and a bake sale. Boosters will have a donation box in the office if you are unable to attend but would like to help.

Christmas tree permits in Lake Tahoe Basin available beginning Nov. 25

The USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit will begin the sale of Christmas tree permits on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019. Permits cost $10 each payable by cash, check or credit card. Please note, cash sales are quicker and allow for more efficient payment processing.

Carson City Sheriff's SET arrests man for suspected drug trafficking

A 60-year old man was arrested Saturday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of multiple felony drug offenses including trafficking and possession of drugs for sale. Another man was also arrested for alleged drug offenses.

Carson City arrests: Burglary suspect hides in bathroom, gets locked inside business

A 28-year-old Carson City woman was arrested for suspicion of burglary after allegedly hiding in a sports bar restroom after it had closed and then attempting to take items and leave but couldn't get through the locked door, a sheriff's deputy report states.
