Carson City supervisors to discuss funding allocations, budget augments

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, June 6, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

To be discussed are funding, contract purchases, grants, special event costs, and more.

Carson City supervisors to discuss rifle range usage, family planning grant and more

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will meet tomorrow, Thursday, April 18 to award Length of Service certificates to city employees, discuss contracts for new furniture in the sheriff’s office, rifle range usage, a family planning services grant and more.

Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range open Wednesday and Thursday evenings at no cost

Beginning April 17, the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range will be open for free public use on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. During this time, the range will be monitored by Carson City Park Rangers, as they are Range Safety Officers, certified by the National Rifle Association.

Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range open Sundays only for now

Due to verified reports involving the likelihood of stray bullets entering into populated areas originating from the discharge of firearms at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range, a temporary operating schedule was implemented along with the increased presence of Range Safety Officers made available by the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club, the city’s non-profit partner for the operation of the range.

On Dec. 27, 2018 the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department completed the installation of a concrete monument sign and rules/regulatory signage at the Rifle and Pistol Range.

Carson City Gun Range faces safety challenges

The Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range is a popular place for target shooting in a controlled, safe environment. The safety aspect of the range has come into question though, amid multiple reports of stray bullets landing on the landfill property, nearby. The general public cannot use the gun range, every day, until it is proven to be safe for workers at the landfill.

Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire near rifle range

UPDATE 2:45PM: An update to the fire at the rifle range Tuesday afternoon. Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon reports progress made on the fire and is now moving into mop-up phase. There are three hand crews, two engines, 1 rescue ambulance and overhead staff on scene. The fire is between 4 to 5 acres. Helicopter air support was not needed.
The cause is unknown at this time and is under investigation. The rifle range remains closed for the day.

UPDATE 2:18PM: Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon said there was a flareup this afternoon that takes the fire out of mop-up phase. A hand crew from the Nevada Division of Forestry has been called to the scene. There has been some talk of air support from firefighting helicopters.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is financially partnering with the Carson City Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department to install a vault toilet at the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range.

Brush fire chews 123 acres at Carson City rifle range

Fire crews have knocked down a 123-acre blaze that started late Saturday morning near the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range off Flint Drive near the landfill.
Called the Rifle Fire, flames and smoke that billowed through the eastern edge of Carson City were extinguished after several agencies, helicopters and air tankers attacked the fire head-on through the afternoon and into the evening reports the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
An air tanker was taken off the fire and some equipment was moved out of the area after 5 p.m., said Helen Frazier of the dispatch center.
