Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days, including the Carson City Fair, Karson Kruzers Run What Cha Brung car show, a fundraiser bike ride, cooking classes, tours at the Nevada State Museum, train rides on Saturday and much more!

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, the Nevada State Museum in Carson City has a host of activities and programs planned this week that aim to look back at the past, learn about the present and inspire the future.

CARSON CITY — Fifty years after Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin took “one giant leap for mankind,” the image of putting a man on the moon remains a source of pride wrapped in awe for most Americans.

The young and young of heart still dream of becoming astronauts and most people 50-plus can tell you where they were and what they were doing that July day in 1969.

‘Break a leg’ to the talented kids in Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Their newest production, ‘Junie B. Jones, Jr.' opens at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall tonight. The Reno Coin Club has returned to the Nevada State Museum for it’s annual National Coin Week celebration with lectures, demonstrations, and foreign coins for kids. It’s a BINGO kind of night. Dayton High School is raising funds for their Safe Grad Night with a huge raffle and plenty of family-friendly BINGO fun. CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Museum, in partnership with the Reno Coin Club, will be celebrating the 95th annual National Coin Week, April 15-21, with a special event planned at the museum on Friday, April 20.

In recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, the public is encouraged and cordially invited to attend a day of honor filled with special events, Friday, Oct.28, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Food Truck Friday is the theme of the new United Federal Credit Union’s Grand Opening week: you can find them across the street from Mill’s Park on Williams St. Earth Day weekend kicks off at Western Nevada College with a Gem and Mineral Sale during the day, followed by a presentation by World Renowned Scientist: Dr. Charles Goldman in Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Break a leg to the cast of ‘Harvey.’ The Procenium Players open their two weekend run at the Brewery Arts Center’s Black Box Theater tonight.

In the world of coins, Carson City is a collector’s delight. Famous as the home of the U.S. Branch Mint that made some of the rarest of coins from 1870 to 1893, the Nevada State Museum, Carson City, hosts a special celebration of its coin-making past each year for National Coin Week.

Dealers, collectors, admirers and amateurs will find fun at the 2015 Carson City Mint Coin Show and Fair. Professionals will buy, sell and trade money and offer expertise in a lecture series during the two-day event Aug. 21-22.

Just remind yourself that these April showers bring May flowers, and the balmy spring weather is returning in just a few days. This weekend has indoor and outdoor activities aplenty, so you can choose the degree of wind and rain you want to deal with.

The Nevada State Museum celebrates National Coin Week April 19-25 with special activities Friday and Saturday. Co-sponsored by the Reno Coin Club, all activities will be held at the museum that was formerly the Carson City U.S. Branch Mint.

Historic Coin Press No. 1 will operate both days from 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. The press will mint silver .999 fine medallions for sale to the public.

UPDATE: Yogi Berra may have said, “A nickel ain’t worth a dime anymore,” but at the 2014 Carson City Mint Coin Show and Fair, the value is in the eye of the beholder. Sharp skilled dealers will buy, sell, trade and offer their expertise with free appraisals during the two-day event today, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 23. Held this year at both the Nevada State Museum and the Carson Nugget, the fair includes activities for children, prize drawings, lectures, coin sales and free appraisals with admission.

With the theme “Celebrating Civic Service,” Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club joins coin collectors from across the United States for the 91st annual National Coin Week observation. The museum, which is site of the original U.S. Mint in Carson City, hosts celebrations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

With the theme, “Celebrating Civic Service,” Nevada State Museum in Carson City and the Reno Coin Club will join coin collectors from across the United States the for the 91st Annual National Coin Week, April 20 to 26. Nevada’s observance is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 25 and 26 at the museum, the site of the original U.S. Mint in Carson City.

Who doesn't like to collect money? Whether it is a rare Double Eagle $20 piece from the 1800s, an Indian Head Penny or a Nevada Day special medallion, the Carson City Mint Coin Show and Fair will help fill the hole in any coin collection.

Dozens of dealers will buy, sell, trade and offer their expertise with free appraisals during the two-day event Aug. 23 and 24, held this year at both the Nevada State Museum and the Carson Nugget.

Coin collectors and numismatists from all over the country will be flocking to Carson City August 26-27 to purchase the coveted Mint Mark “CC” coins and other collectibles. In fact, the hobby of coin collecting is more popular than ever before, thanks to the high price of gold. Twenty-five dealers will be on hand from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm both Friday and Saturday, giving free appraisals and offering valuable wares to buy, sell, and trade. Fabulous prizes will be raffled off both days, culminating in the Grand Prize Drawing at 3 pm on Saturday.

Time to flip a coin and cash in on some Carson City history this week.
Today through Saturday is National Coin Week and the Nevada State Museum and Reno Coin Club will celebrate the occasion with events culminating on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum.

The 87th annual National Coin Week, will celebrate coin and currency collecting with the theme, “Beautiful Places: Landmarks and Mintmarks.” The Nevada State Museum and the Reno Coin Club, both members of the American Numismatic Association, have several events lined up for the day.
