Christmas is fast approaching, and most agree it is the best time of the year. The holidays can be a difficult time for many, but it does not have to be this way.

Christina Forrester, Executive Director and Founder of Christian Democrats of America and the Christians Against Hate movement, will be the featured speaker at Monday's virtual Democratic luncheon.

A research project was recently published by the Journal of Hospital Management and Health Policy, indicating that 60 percent of Washoe County residents (and 74 percent of Washoe County non-smokers) would favor a law prohibiting smoking in all casinos in Washoe County.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon will be Mary Liveratti, who served as AARP's Nevada state president for six years before retiring in 2018. She now serves as a volunteer advocate on behalf of legislation impacting seniors. At Monday's luncheon, she will talk about the role she plays in the University of Nevada, Reno’s NEST (Nevada Ensures Support Together) program, which addresses the social service needs of older Nevadans.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce six high school seniors (four from Carson High School and two from Pioneer High School) who have shown exceptional academic prowess. Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. National Honor Society held its induction ceremony Sept. 23 in the CHS Big Gym featuring guest speaker Ryan Costella a 2000 CHS graduate. Costella was an active member of NHS, and this fact influenced his desire to attend college at Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA where he earned degrees in Political Science and English.

The Carson City School District is pleased to announce, of any high school, Carson High School retains the most National Merit and Presidential Scholars committing to the University of Nevada, Reno. Fourteen CHS seniors pledged to continue their education with the university during the Nevada Scholars Signing Day, held in the CHS library Wednesday, May 22.

The Carson City School District will be holding its upcoming School Board meeting Tuesday, May 28 in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, beginning at 6 p.m.

Carson City’s Western Nevada College has been awarded the number three slot in the state RN Nursing Program ranks. WNC's program ranks 3 out of 12 accredited nursing schools in Nevada.

Chase Johnson had a tiger by the tail once, and now he’s chasing another one. After the Carson City product received his Bachelors of Science in Psychology, with a Minor in Linguistics last year from Louisiana State University, the LSU Tigers alum, and 2014 Sierra Lutheran High School graduate, is now pursuing study of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at LSU.
