Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) would like to thank the staff at Benson's Feed and Pet Food for helping us host another great Pictures with Santa on December 5. Our furry friends came out in droves to tell Santa all about their year in hopes of a special treat, which Jim Benson promptly supplied! Welcome to the first day of vacation for all you kids (and teachers) out there. There are some great ways to spend these days off. Head to Carson Lanes for one dollar specials all day long. The ice rink at Arlington Square has extended hours for the next two weeks, so strap on some skates and have fun. Santa will be at the Carson Mall every day until Christmas Eve. Nerdvana has found new digs at the corner of Airport Road and Hwy 50 East. Monday is family game night: who’s up for a challenge?

We all know that when a bell rings an angel gets its wings, thanks to Christmas classic ‘It’s a Wonderful Life.’ Head down to the Brewery Arts Center for a free viewing and share the movie with your friends, family, and community. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers are one talented bunch and their performance of ‘Yes Virginia: The Musical’ is sure to be a hit with young and old alike.

Ready to break a world record, Carson City? High school senior, Taylor Weddell is organizing an attempt at the World’s Largest Human Christmas Tree for her senior project. Grab everyone you know and head to Carson High at 10 a.m. Bundle up, and get ready for a good time. Hot beverages will be available to help keep you warm.

Unleash your inner diva at karaoke night at Living the Good Life or Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar. Unleash your creative side at the Brewery Arts Center: learn to make ‘em laugh at tonight’s improv workshop.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. This time next week it will be Christmas Eve and Santa will be on his way. Make sure to tell him what you want and grab a free photo at Red’s Old 395. Join Capital City Arts Initiative in the Sierra Room of the Community Center; an artist reception for Claudia Knous begins at 10 a.m. Heads up, you’ll need to park on the east side of the building. Enjoy our award winning high school band, Blue Thunder, as they perform a winter concert in the Bob Boldrick Theater. They will be joined by the school’s orchestra as well.

WEDNESDAY:

Ready for more snow? Let’s just hope that the clouds clear by tonight because the Geminids Meteor Shower is at its peak tonight and tomorrow. Don your ugliest sweater for the Carson Victory Rollers’ Red and Green Scrimmage, and bring a toy for their Toys for Tots drive. If you haven’t caught Wild Horse Children’s Theaters production of Babes in Toyland yet, grab the kids and get down to the Brewery Arts Center for their final performance.

SUNDAY:

The clock is ticking for last minute shoppers. Luckily, Carson City has great options for everyone on the list. Telegraph Square in downtown will be hopping with a Santa parade, vendors, and a pirate ship, in addition to great shops. The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a weekend-long art sale with one of a kind options throughout the campus. Art is a great gift, and making it is even more fun. Carson City Pottery is holding an open house today; a gift certificate for a pottery class is perfect for all skill levels.

SATURDAY:

My snow dance worked! The weather should start clearing up for the next few days, so the roads should be clear. There’s no need to leave our valley though, great things are happening. The annual Share Your Christmas food drive goes on for most of the day: you don’t even need to leave your car, just drive up to the Governor’s Mansion, and someone will get your donation to the right place. Unwind, decompress and relax at a number of our great bars and restaurants.

Deck the halls with broken tree branches; the wind, she is a-blowin’. Hopefully we get some snow out of all of this bluster. Tonight is a good time for some ‘Joyful Noise,’ the 14th Annual Community Holiday Show at the Brewery Arts Center. If you’d rather make some noise yourself, check out karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at Living the Good Life. Turn the heat up with Salsa Dance at El Charro Avita. Santa’s waiting for you at the Carson Mall or at Red’s Old 395.

THURSDAY:

Oh, the weather out there is going to be frightful. A blustery storm is on its way in today, so you may want to bring in that inflatable snowman. Heading outside will be rewarded though. Ladies will find great specials at the Ormsby Club and Carson Cigar Co. Live music will be playing at Glen Eagles and Living the Good Life.

Happy Sunday. There’s still plenty of weekend left. Craft fairs at Carson Lanes and the Carson Colony are sure to have something for that hard to buy for person on your list. Fight the chill with chili at the Carson Bulldog Wrestling Club’s Chili Cook-off at Yogurt Beach. Sing some holiday songs at the Holiday Karaoke Sing-along Party at the Carson City Library. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.

SUNDAY:

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

SATURDAY:

I love Carson City. Our downtown makes every season special: flower baskets in the summer, daffodils in springtime, the changing leaves of autumn, and winter means the Nevada Christmas tree at the Capitol. Tonight is the night when the light switch gets flipped. Join Santa and our community tonight at the annual Silver and Snowflakes tree lighting. Enjoy carolers, hot cocoa, and more in Telegraph Square during the Christmas Faire. Don’t miss the talented members of Wild Horse Children’s Theater: they’ll be singing at 4 p.m.

What a weekend in store for us: the Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting, the wine walk, Holiday with a Hero crawl, and more. First things first, though, Thursday fun stuff. Bundle up and head to Gardnerville for the Christmas Kick-off at Heritage Park with Santa, a tree lighting, and fireworks if the weather cooperates. Empty Bowls is hosting a preview night at the First Presbyterian Church; for a donation of $25 or more you get first pick of the handmade bowls that members of the community have made and decorated over the past year, and that includes admission to the soup fest tomorrow.

Don’t let hump day get you down, Carson City. Lunchtime blues with Dave Leather at Comma Coffee will get you through the workday. Geeks Who Drink trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. is a fun and silly way to pass an evening; and you can win prizes. Get some shopping done at the Carson Mall, and don’t forget your Hawaiian shirt: Hawaiian Santa will be there for photos. You’ll want your cowboy boots for line dancing at Carson Lanes.

Carson City Symphony does some great things: one of which is the Strings in the Schools program. Join our talented STRAZZ students tonight at the Community Center as they perform the annual ‘This is not a Christmas Concert’ concert. Sassafras will be filled with some swanky jazz; Judith and Rocky are hosting this week’s jazz jam. Santa has been spotted at Red’s Old 395 and, naughty or nice, little boys and girls will get a photograph to take home. Stick around and enjoy Janet Leigh in Holiday Affair with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

It’s Small Business Saturday, which is a great time to explore our downtown shops, and the local businesses throughout town. Don’t miss the Christmas Kick-off at Evergreen Gene’s, complete with a visit from Santa. Carson Valley Inn hosts its annual Kandy Kane Holiday Craft Fair. You will also find great Nevada items in our Museum Gift Shops and at the Chamber of Commerce’s Artisan Gallery.

CASI and Benson's Feed team up to bring Santa and his elf for photo shoots with your pets. Bring your furry critters down to Benson's Feed at 2750 Hwy 50 in Carson City on Saturday, December 5th from 10 AM to 2 PM. The cost is $15 for one 4x6" print and a digital copy (emailed to you). Enjoy the magic of the season with your furry friends while helping to raise money for the new animal shelter. Prizes will be given for largest, smallest and best dressed critters courtesy of Benson's Feed. Enjoy hot cocoa and cookies while you wait.

Hello, Carson City! The holiday season is in full swing with tree lightings, craft fairs, Santa sightings all around the area. Every week, I create a list of the fun stuff and events going on around the Carson City area for my Facebook page, I love Carson City. I follow the pages of local businesses and organizations, search website calendars, keep my ear to the ground, and compile a list of anything and everything going on in this community.

Carson City Sheriff K9 Unit only has one Protective vest and has five K9 officers.

Hello Carson City! Time again for the weekend event update brought to you by I love Carson City. I Love Carson City is a Facebook page dedicated to all there is to get involved with and do in the Carson City area. Not everyone is on Facebook, or wants to be, but you do NOT need to sign up to see the information.

Carson City residents and visitors of all ages are invited to take their picture with Santa at the Carson Nugget on tonight, Thursday, Dec. 5 from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event is free to attend and parents are encouraged to bring their own camera to take capture the precious memories. The entire Carson Nugget Banquet area will be decorated including a live Santa Claus and there will be hot chocolate and candy canes for the children.

During this event the Carson Nugget will also be collecting coats to donate to those in need this winter season.
