The Pahrump Poolfish is an endangered species that just cannot seem to get a break. It has lived on the edge of extinction since the early 1970’s when groundwater pumping caused Manse Spring, the only warm water spring in which they were found, to dry up and remaining poolfish were relocated to various locations in Nevada for safe keeping.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. The Nevada State Railroad Museum is holding train rides dedicated toward women’s suffrage on Saturday. Feeding Pets of the Homeless is hosting its 11th annual nationwide pet food and supply drive over the next three days, and there is plenty of live music for all to enjoy! LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – As a reminder, backcountry visitors should practice proper food and garbage storage and behave appropriately when hiking and backpacking in Bear Country.

This summer, wilderness rangers report bears are successfully taking down food-hangs in Desolation Wilderness. Once bears become habituated to human food and garbage they will return and seek it out. Agencies highly recommend using bear resistant canisters when visiting the backcountry.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national non-profit organization dedicated to feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to pets of the homeless population, is hosting its 11th annual Give a Dog a Bone Week, a national event to collect pet food and supplies for those in need, from Aug. 10-16.

Five months of daily communication with 'Huckleberry' has paid dividends. We are now fast friends. Huck was born a couple years ago right here on my deck, and in fact, he fledged straight into a sleeping bag I placed for him on the driveway below.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting that there have been two bats that have tested positive for rabies in Douglas County within the last two weeks. There was both animal and human exposure to these bats.

Feeding Pets of the Homeless, a national animal welfare nonprofit based in Carson City, Nev., received a $3,000 grant from the Dave and Cheryl Duffield Foundation to provide financial assistance towards helping those in Northern Nevada.

In an effort to raise much-needed funds for the kitties, Catmandu is having a benefit yard sale this Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18. It will be held at Catmandu, 1829 Brown Street in Carson City. Hours of the sale are 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
