Fulcrum BioEnergy’s Sierra BioFuels Plant that is being built in Storey County received a $70 million grant boost from the Department of Defense’s Advanced Drop-in Biofuels Production Project, Nevada Sen. Harry Reid announced Friday.

The grant award follows the Sept. 4 announcement by U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack at the National Clean Energy Summit that the Department of Agriculture had finalized a $105 million loan guarantee for the Sierra BioFuels plant.

A 27-year-old Carson City man was jailed Monday on a gross misdemeanor charge of open and gross lewdness and domestic battery after allegedly throwing himself on a 16-year-old girl and kissing her, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the 100 block of Carson Meadows at 8:35 p.m. regarding a dispute inside a home involving two large families having a barbecue. Both families live in the home.

Recently, right here in Carson City, I was asked to sign a “Petition to Impeach President Obama”. I was told to “impeach” meant to remove a sitting President from office and that by merely signing this petition, President Obama and his wife Michelle, would be leaving the White House because “the people have spoken.”

Some high earning individuals were surprised when they got their 2013 Individual Income Tax Return. They paid more taxes in 2013 than they did on the same income in 2012. Several different tax laws caused the higher federal income taxes.

The Itemized Deductions on Schedule A of form 1040 were reduced if single individuals had more than $250,000 of total income. Even their home mortgage interest and charitable deductions were reduced to less than they paid. Married couples saw the “phase down” of Itemized Deductions if their total income was $300,000 or more.

Its proponents say CC is merely a set of standards for kindergarten through twelfth-grade education developed by disinterested and public-spirited experts at the request of the nation’s governors and state school superintendents.

The Obama administration is laying out plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants by 30 percent by 2030 to reduce global warming. States must come up with plans to meet their individualized targets, which will vary across the nation. States will have until 2017 and in some cases 2018 to submit their cleanup plans. Here's how the plan affects Nevada:

President Obama announced a new kind of retirement plan called “MyRA.” It won’t do very much to reduce your income taxes because the contributions to this new retirement savings plan are not deductible on your tax return. It is your account and you keep it if you change jobs.

The accounts for this plan will be funded or paid with what wages are left after payroll deductions. It is paid from what you have left after taxes.

The Obama administration is granting more time for people to apply for health care if they started the process but were unable to complete it before the March 31 deadline.

Nearly 1,300 federally subsidized flood insurance policies in Nevada are set to feel the sting of flood insurance rate hikes, despite a rate relief law President Barack Obama signed Friday.

Let's ignore the 80/800 group of businesses in Carson City, for the moment, and consider meeting the 20/20 group in a compromise over the sales tax increase to pay for their proposed ten million dollar corridor improvements. Why not have them put up half the money of $5 Million ($250K each) and the city can match their investment for the remaining half? Let's all compromise and meet them halfway. If they are willing to put up their money, where our taxes are to be spent, then let hear it for compromise.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated nine counties in Nevada as primary natural disaster areas due to the drought. The counties included are Lyon, Washoe, Churchill, Mineral, Lander, Pershing, Clark, Nye and Humboldt.

Farmers and ranchers in Carson City, Douglas and Storey counties as well as Esmeralda, Lincoln, White Pine, Elko and Eureka counties also qualify for natural disaster assistance because their counties are contiguous.

The Nevada Division of Insurance announced Wednesday that it would not extend canceled health care policies because doing so would conflict with both state law and federal laws.

They say 45 states have adopted the Common Core “State” Standards for grades K-12. If you have not heard about them yet, that’s because they rammed it through with the same “you have to pass it to find out what’s in it” arrogance that gave us obamacare. Nevada Sen. Harry Reid said he's pleased the Obama Administration has provided a second extension of the Making Home Affordable Program.

“Nevada has been hit the hardest by the housing market crisis. It is imperative that we work to help struggling homeowners who have lost so much in something that they have worked so hard to keep," said Reid in a press statement.

C-SPAN and Charter have partnered to bring the 2013 C-SPAN Bus to Carson City and Reno on Thursday, April 4. During the stops, visitors will have the opportunity to learn about C-SPAN’s public affairs programming and resources.

The interactive bus will be at the Nevada State Legislative Building, 9:30-11 a.m. at the corner of 4th Street and South Carson Street in Carson City.

Dozens of veterans gathered Saturday at Mills Park in Carson City to pay tribute to fellow war veterans, to recognize the 50th anniversary of the official start of the Vietnam War and to commemorate the 40-year-mark of the end of combat operations, March 29th, 1973.

The gathering, hosted by the Carson City Area Vietnam Veterans Chapter 388, brought together several dozen Northern Nevada veterans of the Vietnam War and other wars for a ceremony, similar to ones held across the county in recognition of National Vietnam Veterans Day.

John Arthur “Jack” Johnson was a black heavyweight boxing champion from 1908 to 1915. On July 4, 1910 Johnson defended his title against former boxing legend James Jeffries in Reno. He won the fight, but the victory ignited race riots all over the country.

Johnson had several relationships with white women, which only added to the outrage over his race. In October of 1912, Johnson was convicted for transferring women across state lines for immoral reasons.

Does anyone out there actually believe that Congressional sequestration results in budget cuts? The federal spending under sequestration goes up every year without congress even passing a budget. If the automatic baseline budget grows less than is required by law then Washington, our media, and the New-speak columnists misinform the people of our nation that there has been a cut when in fact spending is increasing. There are no cuts which is why spending goes up each year.

The Carson City Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will mark Vietnam Veterans Day in a short ceremony and social gathering on Saturday, March 30, 2013.

The short ceremony will be held at the Vietnam Memorial, located in Mills Park in Carson City, NV in the southeast corner of the park at 5 PM. (The park may be accessed from either Saliman Road across from Carson High School).

After the ceremony, a “Welcome Home” social will be held at the High Sierra Brewery Company, located at 302 North Carson Street at 5:30 PM. No Host Bar, free appetizers, and good cheer.

Carson City and nearby Douglas County as well as Esmerelda and White Pine counties have been designated disaster areas due to damages and losses caused by recent drought, the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirms today in a news release.

And the following California counties contiguous to Nevada have also been declared disaster areas because of drought conditions: Alpine, El Dorado, Inyo, Mono and Placer.

Introduction
