Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/08/2019 - 1:45pmUPDATE TUESDAY FROM CENTRAL LYON FIRE: Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, Central Lyon Fire responded to a reported structure fire in the area of Hidden Oak Drive in the Mark Twain District. Upon arrival, Central Lyon Fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from the attic space of a residence.

I don't know why I was whistling that particular Ray Charles song, though I'm sure a psychiatrist could tell me. Be that as it may, a mother and young son were walking by when the little guy asked, "Mom, why is that man whistling?"
"Because he's happy, Honey," she answered with a smile.
Two-acre fire sweeps through 5 Silver Springs properties, 3 treated for smoke inhalation
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 07/01/2019 - 3:53pmUPDATE TUESDAY: Central Lyon County Fire responded Monday night to a structure fire at the Five Star Mobile Home Park in the 1300 block of 5th Street in Silver Springs. According to witnesses, the fire burned at least one mobile home. No injuries have been reported. The fire was knocked down at around 9:30 p.m. We will update as more information becomes available.

Central Lyon Fire Protection District responded Sunday to an interface fire in Silver Springs where the fire spread to approximately 2 acres over 5 properties. The fire consumed two outbuildings, 1 structure and multiple vehicles.

With a stiff onshore breeze you might want to tee off with a three iron. With no wind, which is rare, you might want a wedge.

Students with the Carson City School District, in partnership with the Wild Horse Children’s Theater, will debut their Summer Theater Camp’s adaptation of Disney’s "101 Dalmatians, Kids." Admission to the play is free of charge; however, donations will be accepted.

Carson City pre-kindergarten classes earn 3, 4 and 5 star ratings in QRIS results

Fremont Elementary earned a 3-star rating; Mark Twain Elementary, Bordewich Bray Elementary and Student Support Services all earned a 4-star rating, and Empire Elementary earned a 5-star rating.

Bowers Mansion Civil War Reenactment sure to be a blast this weekend

Yes, for some, history elicits a yawn, but once you get into it, the history of a community can be fascinating and will get you off your couch and perhaps onto your bicycle, for much of our history can be found within the downtown core where bike riding is easy. Don’t own a bike, well, you can walk to many of the sites.

Paving for Pizza is a creative nationwide initiative to award nominated cities funds to fill potholes. Carson City Public Works proudly accepts this award and is honored to be chosen based on the thoughtful nominations submitted by Carson City’s residents. The courteous gesture of nominating Carson City is praiseworthy.
Vacancy Report shows Carson City's tight market, new apartment complexes coming soon

According to the study, however, there are several projects either underway or waiting for approval, including new apartment complexes, industrial buildings, school expansions, a dog boarding facility, and more.
