Heading into the weekend, there’s plenty of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include an artists fair at Carson Mall, the 60th annual camel and ostrich races in Virginia City, a memorial run in Carson City, the 28th annual Oktoberfest in Gardnerville, a Veterans Resource Fair at Carson Nugget, history walks at Mormon Station Park, live comedy and more.

Moving into Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, there's another chance for thunderstorms headed our way and then a bit of a cool down going into the weekend. Looking around the capital city Thursday there's a meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors, auditions for V&T Railway's Polar Express, art showings, a host of activities at the Carson City Library, a Muscle Powered morning hike and more.

Carson Mall will host its first Artists and Makers Fair this Saturday, Sept. 7. Come one and all for art showings and live demonstrations of artists work throughout the day at this all ages family event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Carson City’s Montessori has been educating a portion of the capitol city’s children for over a decade. They quickly outgrew their space, and have been looking to relocate for about 13 years.

Now, an end may be in sight. According to Carson Montessori Executive Director Jessica Daniels, the school has been looking at the vacant Silver State Charter School complex on Fairview since Silver State shut its doors. After funding fell out more than once, they’re at it again, and a tentative offer of over one million dollars has been offered for the space.

Heading into the first day of the work week, Monday, April 29, 2019, we are looking at another fantastic spring day around the capital city with a high near 70. Ideal for that morning, afternoon or evening walk, bike ride or stroll. Enjoy.

Brad Bonkowski, Carson City Ward 2 Supervisor and Chair of the Carson City RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. His appearance is intended as a town hall on the still unresolved issue of how maintenance of Carson's 676 lane-miles of roadway should be funded.

We're working our way into Thursday, April 25, 2019 and feeling the warmup around the Carson City region. Winding down our work week we have art, theater and railroad history talks, library presentations, a fitness walk, climate change discussion, back pain wellness workshop, music ensemble at the community center and more. The Carson City Photo Club announced winners for its monthly themed contest.

The Carson City Photo Club meets at 6:00 on the fourth Tuesday of every month (except December) at the Carson City Sheriff's Office (use west entrance).

All levels of photographers are welcome.

The theme addressed by this month's winners was "Birds".

Nevada Film Office officials are heading to Los Angeles next week to pitch Nevada’s many iconic locations to executive-level film and television decision makers from Netflix, YouTube, Warner Brothers, Marvel Studios and others during AFCI Week.

On Tuesday, March 26, the Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) will present a public talk, "The Lilley", by the University of Nevada, Reno, curator Paul Baker Prindle.

The event is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors speakers’ series and will take place at 6pm at the Brick, 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City.

There will be an informal reception for Baker Prindle preceding the event at 5:30pm. No tickets needed; the public is cordially invited.

On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 6 p.m., Battle Born Progress will host its biennial Northern Nevada fundraising event, Celebrate Progress, in Carson City. The event recognizes the outstanding work of Northern Nevada’s progressive leaders, activists, volunteers, and organizations for their nonstop commitment to progressive values.

This week kicks off “School Choice Week,” an annual awareness movement that supports parents and children being able to choose their own schooling options, and Nevada students came out to support the cause by marching in front of the Capitol building in Carson City Tuesday morning.

Question 6 in the coming election asks whether Nevada’s Constitution shall be amended to require that, beginning in 2022, all Nevada sellers of retail electricity increase the amount of “renewable” energy resources they use so that at least 50 percent of their electricity comes from those resources by 2030.

We have long supported increasing diversity in energy supplies via economic development of renewables. But the mandates proposed by Question 6 are a big mistake and we strongly counsel voting against it.

Women As Change Makers Summit: Brilliant Women and Bold Ideas is scheduled to take place Friday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Atlantis Casino Resort, 3800 South Virginia Street in Reno.

The 2018 Silver State Art Festival, hosted by the Nevada Gourd Society, is a gathering in Carson City of gourd artists, basket makers, wood artists, photographers and painters from all over the Southwest.

Grab summer with both hands and go enjoy this beautiful city. The Brewery Arts Center brings Dennis Johnson and the Mississippi Ramblers to the stage for tonight’s free concert. Check out the Railroad Museum for your fill of music and antique motor cars. With less than a month until the doors open, Jukebox International Film Festival (JIFF), the only festival to feature films with music as a central driving theme, has announced that two bands appearing in two films screening at the festival will be appearing live in Carson City that week.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. It’s another lazy, hazy day in Northern Nevada. WEDNESDAY, August 8: Things to do in Carson City

Get ready for all things shiny, whether it be brass or chrome. You’ll find plenty of horns playing during the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival that kicks off today. Just about every event is free to the public and family friendly, so get ready for a melodic few weeks. The historic Bliss Mansion, across the street from the Governor’s Mansion, hosts the opening night Garden Party. Hot August Nights gets an early start in Virginia City with a show and shine and poker run; 400 classic cars are waxed up and ready to impress.

FRIDAY, August 3: Things to do in Carson City

Happy Tuesday, Carson City. Another hot, smoky day is on tap, so you’ll want to find indoor activities and nothing too strenuous. The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada offers a story book and craft activity on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; a family membership makes this a great place for summer fun. The Fox Brewpub welcomes all ages to participate in their weekly DJ Trivia tournament; get their early for a good seat and some pub-style eats.

TUESDAY, July 31: Things to do in Carson City

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

It can be hard to wait for the weekend, especially when you’ve got the 25th Annual Taste of Downtown to look forward to. The fundraiser for Advocates to End Domestic Violence fills the streets with tasty treats from over 40 local restaurants, several bands, and fun for the entire community; it’s the best party of the summer.

It’s a planes, trains, and automobiles kind of weekend. Add in bands, bikes and bar-be-ques and we’ve got most of this weekend’s list covered. The Carson City Airport is celebrating 90 years at this year’s open house and fly-in. One of the summer’s best events with balloon rides, cool old planes, and much more: you won’t want to miss it. Beat the heat at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; all admission fees have been waived today thanks to Carson City Toyota. Summer concerts at the Brewery Arts Center begin tonight with the Original Wailers.

Thank you. Parks and Recreation has been leading a series of guided informative hikes along various trails. Today you’ll find a trip to Riverview Park with your four-legged friend in mind: Trails 4 Tails is open to all friendly, leashed dogs who love to sniff new things.

It’s Navy Week in Carson City, and that means you’ll have a handful of opportunities to catch performances by various US Navy bands over the next few days. Enjoy their woodwind quintet this afternoon in the Dema Guinn Concourse of the Nevada State Museum. This evening find the US Navy Brass Band in McFadden Plaza performing alongside the talented kids who participated in the Mile High Jazz Camp.
