Carson City Board of Health reports child vaccine rates down since COVID-19 shutdown, gives Quad-County update

Thursday afternoon at the Carson City Board of Supervisors the Carson City Board of Health convened and provided an update on the Health Officer’s Report, and engagement with the Carson City Health and Human Services (CCHHS) Department.

According to the Carson City Health Officer, Dr. Susan Pintar, immunization rates have been falling since the COVID-19 shut down, some places in the country as much as 40 percent, due to the fear of seeking medical help during the time of COVID-19.

DETR employee tests positive for COVID-19, Carson City call center to handle southern Nevada claims

The Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation was made aware of positive COVID-19 case in the Las Vegas unemployment insurance call center on Saturday, July 11.

Upon learning of the positive result, the call center was immediately closed and remediation efforts began as set forth by state and CDC protocols. The employee is self-quarantined, and there is no immediate exposure risk to the public as the facility has been closed to the public since mid-March.

A local parent has started a petition to open Carson City schools in August and will present the petition at the Tuesday, July 14 meeting of the Carson City School District Board of Trustees.

With Camp Wasiu II’s Virtual Camp-In Camp Out, girls can fight learning loss with engaging science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) activities. Camp Wasiu II’s Virtual Camp-In Camp Out is Sunday, July 12 through Thursday, July 16.
