This first weekend of June packs quite a punch: activities and events abound. With the monthly Wine Walk, Pour for Paws in McFadden Plaza, and Crystal’s Crusade Street Party Fundraiser on W. Telegraph, downtown is the place to be. On January 30, 2018 Betty Block (Rowe) a long-term resident of Carson City left us at the age of 87. Born in Bronxville, NY on September 18, 1930, Betty was raised in Scarsdale, NY, spending all of her childhood summers in Orient Point, NY. Betty attended Scarsdale High and graduated from Dana Hall preparatory school. She attained a B.A. Degree in Mathematics at Vassar College. It was there that she was better known by her classmates as “Betty Boop.”

Storey County Silver Bricks 4-H Robotics First Lego League club packed their year establishing goals and assisting other First Lego League teams.

Thirty-eight employees who have worked a collective 750 years at Carson City School District will retire this year. The retirees will be recognized at the school board meeting Tuesday, May 22.

Western Nevada College is holding is 2018 commencement Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. in the Marv Teixeira Pavilion, 111 E. William Street at the east end of Mills Park in Carson City.

Two face multiple felony charges including kidnapping, assault and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon following a traffic stop by the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team. A third person was also arrested on lesser charges.

A 43-year-old Dayton man was arrested early Sunday for suspicion of a third DUI, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

A 28 year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Saturday morning at 4:20 a.m. in the 500 block of North Carson Street on misdemeanor first offense domestic battery after kicking and striking a male companion with her shoes, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

The kids of Wild Horse Children’s Theater continue their successful run of Junie B. Jones at the Brewery Arts Center - it’s their final weekend, so don’t miss out. Maddie’s Adoption Days is a state-wide event trying to find forever homes for dogs and cats; you’ll find several local shelters and rescues participating in the free adoption days.

The Nevada State Historic Preservation Office, through the Nevada Commission for Cultural Centers and Historic Preservation grant program, has awarded $950,000 to 15 historic and cultural preservation projects throughout Nevada, including the Stewart Indian School Auditorium in Carson City.

‘Break a leg’ to the talented kids in Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Their newest production, ‘Junie B. Jones, Jr.' opens at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall tonight. The Reno Coin Club has returned to the Nevada State Museum for it’s annual National Coin Week celebration with lectures, demonstrations, and foreign coins for kids. It’s a BINGO kind of night. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a man Tuesday after he allegedly emptied packaged baggies of methamphetamine into his coffee cup in order to conceal evidence.

Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens recently wrapped up a complicated year-long investigation into the poaching of a large male black bear in the spring of 2017, resulting in formal charges being filed in Dayton Justice Court March 28 by the Lyon County District Attorney’s Office.

An 18-year-old Carson City man arrested early Monday morning faces numerous charges including suspicion of felony eluding a police officer and misdemeanor reckless driving, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Sierra-Tahoe Branch and Unit #137 of the Fleet Reserve Association hosted the Annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Marine Corp Mountain Training Center, Housing Area, Coleville, CA which was well received by the children and parents.

The Branch & Auxiliary members prepared 600 plastic eggs and stuffed them with candy and small toys. In addition, one of the members made bunnies out of washcloths which the children can use instead of an ice pack (also known as boo-boo bunnies).

A first-year Lego team from Carson Montessori, which goes by the name Golden Dragons, is headed to the World Championships for FIRST Lego League Junior.

The Golden Dragons team is made up of first and second grade students from Carson Montessori, and they will be the first junior league from Nevada to ever attend the World Championships.

Okay. This is one of the hardest weekend lists I’ve ever had to do. This dump of snow has cancelled some events, but others are in full force. Best I can tell, St. Patrick’s Day parties are not deterred by a little snowfall. There will be no parade in Virginia City, but the Rocky Mountain Oyster Fest is on. Head to downtown Carson for more green beer, Irish music, and corned beef and cabbage than you’ll know what to do with.

Winter may be showing up fashionably late, but she was certain to make an entrance. Schools in Carson City are closed due to the snowfall we received last night, but Carson Valley and Lyon County schools will be open. For the kids of Youth Theater Carson City: the show must go on.

Youth Theatre Carson City brings a cast of more than 100 youth to stage a colorful adaptation of Roald Dahl’s iconic children’s story "Willy Wonka, Jr." this Friday through Sunday at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

John Calvin Coolidge Jr., our 30th President, 1923-1929, was perhaps America’s most under-rated chief executive. He was a man of few words, decisive action and a dry sense of humor.

“Silent Cal” was born on the Fourth of July in 1872 in Vermont, the son of a prominent local farmer, general store owner, postmaster and politician. He was the only president born on Independence Day, although three former presidents died on the Fourth.

Students from Wild Horse Children's Theater in Carson City won a Freddie G Award for Excellence in Music at the 2018 Junior Theater Festival West, which was held this weekend at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium and the Convention Center Complex.

A 36-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Thursday morning for suspicion of felony driving under the influence and eluding with endangerment among other charges, a sheriff's deputy said.
