Memorial Weekend activities continue Sunday into Monday

It’s the perfect time to enjoy family and friends and some great music. The Carson Nugget powers it up to rock out tonight with Volt: A Tribute to AC/DC in their ballroom. Dayton Valley Golf Course offers up dinner and a show with this year’s debut of Concerts on the Green. Blues Monster and pulled pork sliders are a great way to enjoy the evening.

See what Tempest the students of Carson High Drama have stirred up as they perform their annual ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ at the Capitol Amphitheater. The GE Family Concert Series in Minden kicks off tonight with Garratt Wilkin and The Parrotheads; you’ll want to bring a jacket, it’s still gets chilly once the sun goes down.

You’re almost there. The long weekend is just around the corner, and everywhere I go I hear of camping trips and bbq plans. As the weather heats up, Muscle Powered compensates by moving their easy hike to the cooler hours of the morning. Chef Mitchell Tufts has found a new home at the new Cadillac Café at the Silver Oak Golf Course: the Grand Opening is at noon. Author and journalist, David Toll, tells the tale of the defunct newspaper, The Gold Hill News, at this month’s lecture at the Nevada State Museum.

I’m not exactly sure what a ‘cupcake war’ is, but whatever the Carson Library has planned, it sounds delicious. Just make sure you register online to participate. Today is relatively quiet around town: we always have some great art exhibits to discover, but not too many planned events. DJ Trivia Night at Westside Pour House pits your smarts against other teams while surrounded by good food and drink. Jazz at Living the Good Life will put some swing in your step for the next few days.

A reception in honor of their shared exhibit begins at 5 p.m. Ladies are invited to join the weekly Muscle Powered bike ride in Ash Canyon, just don’t forget your helmet and some sunscreen. We also have a T-Shirt fundraiser today at Firehouse Subs and Battle Born Ammunition & Firearms, LLC. The fundraiser is for Makayla Warner who is battling a rare kidney disease.

“The sun will come out tomorrow!” Wild Horse Children’s Theater presents the musical “Annie, Jr.” weekends March 10th and 17th at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall in Carson City.

Based on the Broadway favorite and well-known comic strip, “Annie, Jr.” recounts the adventures of a spunky Depression era orphan (Annie) determined to find her parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage, run by the sinister Miss Hannifin.
