Mile High Jazz Band presents Breaking the Ice: An Evening of Big Band Jazz and Poetry
Submitted by editor on Wed, 03/06/2013 - 4:10pmThe Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalists Jakki Ford and June Joplin will be joined by eight poets and readers for Breaking the Ice, a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry. The event will be on Tuesday, March 12, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.
Tonight: Mile High Jazz Band presents "Potluck: A Smorgasbord of Poems and Big-Band Jazz"
Submitted by admin on Tue, 03/13/2012 - 7:17pmThe Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers and guest vocalist June Joplin for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry with a new twist. For "Potluck: A Smorgasbord of Poems and Big-Band Jazz," poets names will be drawn from a hat for each reading, followed by a big band tune.
The program features award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Tracy McQuay, Wayne Carlson, Lee Warner, Terri Breeden, and Joe Crowley.
Admission is $5 general at the door, and free for age 18 and under.
'Best of the Best of Broadway' ballet on the beach

This spectacular musical and dance theater medley will be performed at the Sand Harbor Warren Trepp Amphitheater on beautiful Lake Tahoe by the Sierra Nevada Ballet and musical friends.
Musical numbers from some of the all time favorite musicals such as Show Boat, Sweet Charity, Hello Dolly and more will offer “a vivid performance under the stars for all ages and musical interests”, according to Artistic
Director, Rosine Bena.

Here's what you'll find this weekend:
— Genoa hosts The Old Time Music Festival in the Town Park Saturday. This is labeled as a celebration of American Roots Music and includes the Quake City Jug Band and banjo star Georgette Hall with her daughter Cecilia Yale. Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11. Tickets are $5.
Carson City Jazz series continues with Sample of Soul at Canyon Creek Grill and Bar

The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. This instrumental and vocal musical group is based in the Tahoe-Reno area and performs jazz, blues, R&B, and Motown compositions. Canyon Creek Grill and Bar is located at 939 Mica Drive in Carson City.

The topic of the evening, "Winging It", will be presented at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street in Carson City, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under. Dance instruction from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. is $5 additional.
