Music, poetry and jazz concerts through the weekend in Carson City region
There's lots of music and entertainment lined up for the weekend, not all in Carson City but certainly nearby. And, of course, the Jazz! Carson City festival continues.
Here's what you'll find this weekend:
— Genoa hosts The Old Time Music Festival in the Town Park Saturday. This is labeled as a celebration of American Roots Music and includes the Quake City Jug Band and banjo star Georgette Hall with her daughter Cecilia Yale. Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11. Tickets are $5.
— Cowboy Poetry rules at the Crownpoint Restaurant ion Golden Hill Hotel one mile south of Virginia City Saturday. Tony Argento is the poet in question. Show includes a buffet dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with show time 7:30 p.m. Call 847-0111 for cost.
— Virginia City’s Rail Fest Saturday begins honors immigrant chidren at 6:30 p.m. at the V&T Railway Depot. The oath of Allegiance will be give to many at the time.
— Bowers Mansion off Highway 395 north is site of the Bluegrass Festival. Friday a local bluegrass talent show at the Davis Creek Amphitheater from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be a gospel show at the same place at 10 a.m. Sunday. No cost for these two events. Saturday is the big day with performances starting at 9 a.m. Tickets are $15.
Here’s more music in the air for the jazz music festival in Carson City. It’s all free except for the jazz brunch.
Sunday Aug. 15
— Jazz Brunch with Latashia Lewis and Company at the Plan b Microlounge at B’Sghetti’s on Carson St., ticketed event.
There are Concerts in the Park, at the Legislative Plaza lined up for Sunday:
— 4-5 p.m., Martin and Vargas, Nuevo Flamenco
— 5-6 p.m., Piscus, jazz/electronics, sax, bass and drums
— 6-8 p.m., Carson High Jazz Band
Tuesday, Aug. 17, Canyon Creek Grill
— Linda Merrell and Blue Jasmine, 7-9 p.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 18 at Adele's veranda:
— Barbara Baxter with Peter Supersano, piano, and Phil Jerome, bass, Adele’s veranda, 6-9 p.m
— Rick Metz and First Take jam session, Firkin Fox, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Thursday, Aug. 19, Brewery Arts Center
— 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., David Ake, Paul Roth, Louis Laurain
Fridy begins the big action and Saturday is the bash of bashes. More on those events later.
