Getting in the Mood: The Commanders Jazz Ensemble

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson High Jazz Band present a free concert by The Commanders Jazz Ensemble from the US Air Force Band of the Golden West. The concert is a preliminary event to the "Jazz! Carson City" music festival, which will feature over 45 free music events this coming August.

Air Force Commanders Band comes to Carson City

The U.S. Air Force Commanders Band will perform at the Carson City Community Center on Thursday, May 12. Presented by Jazz Carson City the event is dubbed "Getting In The Mood." Also appearing is the Carson High School jazz band. Admission is free but tickets are required. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the performance at 7 p.m. Call (775) 687-7410 for tickets and details.

Breakfast Jazz at Greenhouse Garden Center

David Bugli and friends from the Mile High Jazz Band will play for the Carson City Chamber of Commerce's "a Jazzy Breakfast Club" at Greenhouse Garden Center on Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., which is normally too early for jazz musicians. Big weekend in Carson City for jazz fans

Jazz Carson City 2010 will wind up this weekend with a Friday night appetizer followed by a Saturday and Sunday blowout.

It’s all under the umbrella of the Mile High Jazz Band, which offers a five-singer tribute to Count Basie Saturday night from 8 to 10 p.m. at the 3rd Street site.

Jazz at Firkin & Fox featuring Rick Metz & First Take

The Jazz! Carson City concert series continues with a performance by Rick Metz & First Take at Firkin & Fox on the deck, 310 S. Carson Street in Carson City from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. It's an Open Jam Session where musicians sit in. They are Rick Metz, saxes; Latisha Lewis, vocals; Dave Kubin, keyboard; Neil Strocchio, drums.

Tonight the featured performer is Barbara Baxter. She will perform jazz, standards and blues. Her backup includes Peter Supersano on keyboard and Phil Jerome on bass.

There's lots of music and entertainment lined up for the weekend, not all in Carson City but certainly nearby. And, of course, the Jazz! Carson City festival continues.
Here's what you'll find this weekend:

— Genoa hosts The Old Time Music Festival in the Town Park Saturday. This is labeled as a celebration of American Roots Music and includes the Quake City Jug Band and banjo star Georgette Hall with her daughter Cecilia Yale. Breakfast from 8:30 a.m. to 11. Tickets are $5.
