The Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents its exhibition, "The Felt Works," by artist Svea Ferguson at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery.

CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, February 8 from 5-7 p.m.; the artist will give a brief talk about her work at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from February 8–May 03, 2019.

Carson City Symphony presents 200th concert featuring saxophonist Rhett Bender Feb. 24

Celebrating its 35th season, the Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will perform its 200th concert, “Balance & Nature,” on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Carson City Community Center's newly refurbished Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

Senator Square: Solutions classes through CHS offer extra help to all students

Solutions is in full swing, and Carson High School is the only high school in Nevada with this amazing grant. The grant money provides out-of-school-time supports for at-risk students. At risk, a broad term in this grant, includes students who are at risk of not passing a class, at risk of becoming truant, or just in need of a safe-place after school.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, "Photo Finished," at the Community Development Building (the Brick), 108 E. Proctor Street, Carson City. Eleven artists from Carson High School have work in the exhibit.

CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Thursday, Jan. 24, 5 to 6:30 p.m. (no longer January 17). The free exhibition is available to the public from January 14 to March 31, 2019, Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.

The artists are all students in Photography Instructor Kara Ferrin’s Advanced Photo class.

The exhibition is available to the public now through Feb. 28, 2019. Note: the Sierra Room is closed for renovation from Jan. 18 to Feb. 6.

Nevada Humanities announces book selections for 2019 Nevada Reads Program

Nevada Humanities has announced the book selections for the 2019 Nevada Reads program.

Throughout 2019, Nevada Reads will feature three books, two nonfiction memoirs and one novel:

Children's Museum of Northern Nevada Gets Foundation Grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation

The Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation of Reno has awarded $2,500 to the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada to support exhibit renovations.

This foundation grant will provide a much needed face lift to several exhibit spaces including the STEM room in the museum's basement.

The Capital City Arts Initiative presents its exhibition, "Americana with Cadmium Orange", by artist Gig Depio at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery in Carson City. CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 5, 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 5, 2018 to Jan. 31, 2019.

The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Nevada Historical Society lecture explores legacy of George Gershwin

As part of its Reno Philharmonic Exhibition Lecture Series, the Nevada Historical Society will welcome guest lecturers Dr. Mark Clague and Timothy Freeze, both musicologists, who take on the topic, “Gershwin’s Legacy.”

The program, Autumn Big-band Jazz, presents the 17-member Mile High Jazz Band playing favorite and new big-band songs. The concert celebrates Harmony for Humanity as part of World Music Days, an annual global event affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity, inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.
