The winter holidays are a time for celebration with family and friends, and that means more cooking, entertaining, home decorating and an increased risk of home fires due to increased usage of cooking and heating equipment. Most home fires and injuries occur in the kitchen as reported by the U.S. Fire Administration. A city and two nonprofit groups’ combined commitments more than double the reward offered for information on a brutal mountain lion killing.
The City of Calabasas in eastern Los Angeles County has matched the $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of poachers who killed a mountain lion in the Santa Monica Mountains last month.
Two other groups put up an additional $1,700 for a total reward of $11,700.

CARSON CITY – Nevada State Controller Kim Wallin announced today that a Fraud Hotline has been posted on her agency’s website in order to assist both the public and state employees in reporting questionable practices.

CARSON CITY – Medicaid fraud is a growing problem here and around the country, and two different Nevada agencies are tasked with investigating cases and returning ill-gotten taxpayer dollars to the program.

The Californians Turn In Poachers and Polluters program (CalTIP) will give up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of trout thieves. The thieves are responsible for stealing approximately 1,000 trout from the San Joaquin Hatchery last weekend.
The toll-free, 24-hour CalTIP hotline is 888-334-2258.
The value of the fish and the cost to repair the damage to the hatchery elevate the crime to a felony.

California game wardens served two search warrants on members of a deer poaching ring early Thursday, resulting in the arrest of three Stockton men.

The wardens arrested Thongseuth Khounchanh, 58, Ti Sila, 51, and Bounleuna Sysenglath, 59, as they returned from an all-night poaching trip in El Dorado County.

The men were charged with killing deer and selling deer meat for profit.

Oregon fishery managers added three days to the all-depth sport halibut fishery off the central Oregon coast.
Fishing for Pacific halibut will be open Thursday, June 23, through Saturday, June 25, at all depths.

The spring all-depth season for the central coast area – from Cape Falcon (30 miles south of the Columbia River) to Humbug Mountain (south of Port Orford) – opened May 12 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays only.

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) announces changes to recreational groundfish regulations that apply to state waters 0-3 nautical miles from shore. The new regulations were adopted by the Fish and Game Commission last month and took effect June 9, 2011.

When the Nevada State Board of Wildlife Commissioners met recently in Las Vegas, its members tackled a packed agenda that included the establishment of big game hunting seasons for 2011 and 2012, including the state’s first black bear hunt and proposed changes to the state’s waterfowl hunt zones.

A Carson City man faces a felony domestic battery charge after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face and later told authorities it was her fault that he did it.

Joshua Dean Harrah, 23, is being held on $5,000 bail after being arrested on Sunday at 12:20 in the afternoon in north Carson City.

Officers were dispatched to 20 College Parkway after a report that a woman had been hit in the nose, suffering a fracture. The suspect, Harrah, had left the scene after the incident.
