Carson City Road Report: Downtown Festival of Lights on Friday, Saturday brings Holiday Crawl

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Nov. 27 through Dec. 4, 2017. Road closures are expected at the following locations due to road/utility work. Please follow detours. Carson City's Holiday With a Hero campaign receives $3,500 donation from Capital Ford

Clear Creek Bowman Holiday with a Hero 3D Shoot

The Clear Creek Bowman Holiday with a Hero 3D shoot is happening December 3rd!
15 to 25 3D targets will be out. Unmarked yardage, but binoculars and rangefinders are ok.
What is the cost, you ask? A $10.00 donation, that will go to "Holiday with a Hero" through the Carson City Sheriff's Department.
This is a fun shoot for a great cause, so dust off your bow one last time and come on out and have some fun.

The shoot is being held at the Centennial Park Archery Range in Carson City.
Registration starts at 9:30am and the shoot starts a 10:00am.

DeBug Computer’s annual Pictures With Santa is almost here! In collaboration with the Carson City Holiday With a Hero fundraiser, we will be offering photos with Santa Claus and your child or well-behaved pet. The event is Dec. 2, 2 to 4 p.m.

Bring your child to the DeBug Carson City store located at 1817 N. Stewart St., #30 to tell Santa their holiday wishes and receive a professional quality photo for $5 or multiple digital images can be purchased on CD for $25.

2017 Holiday With a Hero Begins: Carson City fundraiser provides Christmas to local homeless children

The 14th annual Holiday With a Hero campaign is officially underway. The goal is to give at least 200 homeless children in Carson City a holiday gift to remember by presenting them with a $100 gift card to spend during a special shopping spree at Walmart.

Holiday with a Hero culminates at Wal-Mart in North Carson City

Ten weeks after the 2016 campaign began, Holiday with a Hero culminated Wednesday morning in the Wal-Mart parking lot off Retail Drive in North Carson City.

Hundreds of homeless children and their families braved the wet conditions for a chance to see Santa Claus arrive by fire engine and to go shopping with their community hero.

Downtown Carson City businesses will be offering special signature food and drink items during the second annual Holiday Crawl this Saturday.

“We’re going to have bands at Telegraph Square and McFadden Plaza, and DJs and karaoke all around,” said Meliah Gonzales. “There really is going to be something for everyone.”

Carson City Holiday with a Hero 2016: Buy-in sought for homeless children Christmas campaign

A collaboration of agencies and organizations officially kicked off the 2016 Holiday with a Hero campaign on Wednesday with a goal of giving at least 200 homeless children in Carson City a Christmas experience by providing them gift cards to spend on themselves prior to the holiday.

Santa Claus will be visiting DeBug Computer in Carson City on Saturday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. to help bring Christmas cheer to those less fortunate. You'll find Debug in their new location at 1817 N. Stewart St, #30.

This is DeBug’s fourth year putting on an event to help the sheriff’s office with its Holiday with a Hero event, which pairs up Carson City sheriff's deputies, firefighters and public officials with dozens of pre-selected local students, many of whom don't have permanent homes and live in poverty.

Carson City shines with children, smiles and generosity at 2015 Holiday with a Hero

Nearly 240 Carson City school children were treated Wednesday to an early Christmas that was made possible from Santa’s capital city connection of volunteers, contributors and a community that continues to give of itself in cash and time to those who would have otherwise gone without.

Carson City enjoys first-ever Holiday Crawl

Carson City residents flocked to last night's Holiday Crawl to benefit the Holiday with a Hero program.

Businesses participating in the event were packed as revelers wandered from one stop to the next. Live bands braved the cold to play music at different outdoor venues.

Money raised goes to students identified by the Carson City School District and the McKinney-Vento Students in Transition program. Children receive a $100 gift card and are escorted though Walmart by a local emergency responder to shop for gifts for their families.

Holiday Crawl benefiting Holiday with a Hero takes place tonight

Downtown Carson City will be crawling with holiday revelers as the first-ever Holiday Crawl benefiting the Holiday with a Hero program takes place tonight.

Tickets for the Holiday Crawl are available at local businesses, including Fingerprinting Express, Caterpillar’s Hookah Lounge, Westside Pour House, and Carson City Visitors Bureau; as well as Carson Fire Station 51, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and Juvenile Probation. Attendees must be 21 and over.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

What a weekend in store for us: the Silver and Snowflakes Tree Lighting, the wine walk, Holiday with a Hero crawl, and more. First things first, though, Thursday fun stuff. Bundle up and head to Gardnerville for the Christmas Kick-off at Heritage Park with Santa, a tree lighting, and fireworks if the weather cooperates. Empty Bowls is hosting a preview night at the First Presbyterian Church; for a donation of $25 or more you get first pick of the handmade bowls that members of the community have made and decorated over the past year, and that includes admission to the soup fest tomorrow.

Saturday's downtown Carson City Holiday Crawl to benefit local children in need

More than 20 downtown Carson City businesses will be offering drink and food specials during the Holiday Crawl 6-11 p.m. Saturday to benefit local children in need.

“I’m excited,” said organizer Carson City Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Gonzales. “People have been talking about doing something like this for the past 10 years.”
