Thursday, April 21: Things to do in Carson City
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Thu, 04/21/2016 - 6:08amThank goodness we are only two months from the first day of summer; spring is such an unpredictable season. Blustery today, rainy tomorrow, the threat of some snow in a few days. Take advantage of a nice day whenever it appears. Bike night at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar is one way to do that.

Run on Saturday to benefit local mom with cancer
Submitted by editor on Fri, 12/11/2015 - 7:35amDoctors have told Leslie McGarry her cancer is terminal, predicting she has between two to five years left to live.
She disagrees.
“I don’t feel like,” she begins, but pauses to cover her 5-year-old daughter’s ears. “I don’t feel like I’m dying,” she continues. “Medically, I get it. But I refuse that diagnosis.”
One technician put it to her bluntly. “You have an expiration date,” he told her.
“I laughed. I do have an expiration date, we all do,” McGarry said. “But that’s up to God. He has the final answer.”

Wednesday, June 10: Things to do in Carson City
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Tue, 06/09/2015 - 10:46pmWednesdays are good for music in Carson City. Nothing like a good jam to get you over the workweek hump. Start out at lunchtime with blues at Comma Coffee. Enjoy music with dinner at Living the Good Life or Glen Eagles. The party is at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint, though. Tonight they are hosting a Canadian country-tinged, psycho punk rock n’ roll band called The Creepshow. Named as “One of the top bands you need to know about” by Alternative Press, a band like this doesn’t wander into our valley often.
WEDNESDAY:
- ’New Work’ by artist Pasha Rafat at the Nevada Arts Council: 716 N. Carson St. (8am-5pm)
- CCAI Exhibit: BRIC Art 5 at the BRIC: 108 E. Proctor St. (8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm)

I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: March 21-22
Submitted by Danielle Cook on Fri, 03/20/2015 - 4:51pmIt’s a good weekend to be a kid: the Kerak Shrine Circus is in town! Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.
For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

Movie Review: 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menance' rages again in 3D
Submitted by admin on Sat, 02/11/2012 - 4:06pmI was busy some other place when "Star Wars, The Phantom Menace" opened in 1999 in the USA. Lucky me. Not so lucky now when I went to see the reworked original decked out in 3D. It's a corny movie and the 3D adds little to the viewing except for the $3 extra per ticket. At the Galaxy Fandango in Carson City you can see the release without 3D and you won't be missing much.
