Mike Tice, offensive line coach for the Oakland Raiders football team brought his A-game to his 7th annual charity golf tournament weekend in June featuring the entire Raiders coaching staff, including head coach Jack Del Rio and a spate of former NFL players from around the country. The event doubled its take this year, including a match from Carson Valley Inn owner, Mike Pegram to over $300,000.

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The 28th annual American Century Championship is in the books, and former Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Mulder won for the third straight year, the first three-peat at the celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe.

Take it easy today, that’s what Sundays are for. An afternoon porch party at the historic Genoa Bar combines live music by Deception and slushy rum runners. Dutch oven cooking is a camp-time favorite, and the rangers at Mormon Station State Park will be giving a demonstration on how easy and delicious it can be. Open to kids of all ages, they will bike, run, and swim their way to the finish line. The third annual Sassabration event kicks off with a multi-colored, costume bike parade from the Brewery Arts Center to the celebration at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint. Multiple bands, vendors, non-profit booths, free swimming at the Carson Hot Springs, not to mention the yummy food and drink available make this a not-to-be-missed festival.

I hope your dancing shoes are handy because the music will have you on your feet. Local favorites, Jelly Bread, take the stage at McFadden Plaza as part of the Fridays at the Fox series. Start the weekend with some belly laughs: either with Kevin Farley at the Brewery Arts Center or with Mrs. John Hughes at the Carson Nugget. Break a leg to our talented friends and neighbors participating in this year’s Senior Follies. ‘As Seen On TV’ marks the twentieth year the variety show has showcase local talent.

During the South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting Tuesday, City Manager Nancy Kerry said former President Bill Clinton may be arriving into town for the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Stateline this week.

The 28th annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course is launching a new app that will enable users to follow players live throughout this week, July 11-16.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. For the third consecutive year, multi-talented actor and musician Justin Timberlake will join superstar athletes and entertainers at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe this summer. The highly-decorated performer is an avid golfer who plays to a 4-handicap and is renowned in the sport for his philanthropic endeavors.

Holy moly, what a way to start the weekend. The Nevada State Fair kicks off today in Carson City’s Mills Park and so does the Annual Carson Valley Days celebration in Douglas County. No matter where you are, there is a carnival nearby. You’ll find some fun in downtown Carson tonight with karaoke at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Westside Pour House. Kick start your bike and head to Battle Born Harley; their Bike Night features live music by the Smoken Rabbits. Keep a sweater handy, the temperature is dipping a little, and will drop even further as soon as the sun goes down.

The third annual Carson City Kiwanis Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Day is like Carson City’s mini Olympics, said founder Robey Willis.

Gaming revenue in the Carson City area fell 1.54 percent in July compared to the same time last year, while statewide gambling profits show a nearly 10 percent increase, according to figures released Wednesday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
