On March 27, 2020, at approximately 5:54 AM, a Nevada Highway Patrol Sergeant had stopped to assist a motorist on US-93 and White Pine county mile marker 106, north of Ely, NV. During this contact, the motorist open fired on Sgt. Ben Jenkins, who was struck and killed. The motorist stole the Sergeant’s uniform and fled the scene in Sgt. Jenkins’ patrol vehicle. Following a search that lasted several hours, the suspect, John Dabritz, a 65-year-old White Pine resident, was located and taken into custody with the assistance of multiple agencies.

Our native soils are low in organic matter due to low rainfall amounts. In addition, they are more alkaline than soils rich in organic matter. The alkalinity of a soil often interferes with micronutrient availability causing nutrient deficiencies in plants. The good news is that by adding organic matter, our soils can support healthy plants and yield good harvests.

Carson City Pooch brings home gold from famous Westminster Dog Show
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Fri, 02/21/2020 - 10:06amCarson City's own Ryker the Spinone Italiano won his Breed at the Westminster Dog Show earlier this week. There were a total of 13 Spinoni entered to compete this year and Ryker brought home the gold with best in his breed.
This isn't Ryker's first big win at Westminster though, as he is a return champion.
Some of Ryker’s career accomplishments include:

We met when we were really young he was fifteen and I was fourteen but that did not matter because we have been together ever since. His brought laughter and joy into my life. I could not imagine life without him. Like all couples we have our highs and lows, even though at times we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel we mange to meet in the middle and guide one another. We have build a beautiful life together and I can not wait to see what the future will hold for us! Maybe more babies? Or maybe more puppies?
Carson City's Empty Bowls 2019 announces Awards for Best Soup

This event would have never been possible without our local restaurants’ donations of several gallons of soup. This year was our first year awarding the best, most popular soup served. During the first act, you’ll meet a Shakespearean actor with a drinking problem, a washed-up former child star, a bimbo with a short memory, and a hapless costumer who finds herself onstage — playing a man.
Carson City Parks Department: Fuji Park playground closed for repairs, to reopen sometime in March
Submitted by Kelsey Penrose on Tue, 02/04/2020 - 1:28pmThe Fuji Park playground adjacent to the Fuji Park Dog Park has been closed due to repairs, according to David Navarro, Parks Operations Superintendent from the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, and is set to be reopened sometime in March, although the time frame is dependent on an order of new parts for the playground.
