Magic, cuisine and live music will raise the roof this winter with the opening of The Loft Theatre, a new all-ages performance theater and dining venue in the heart of South Lake Tahoe.

The Loft is a first for the California side of Tahoe South that combines a theater, with nightly live entertainment, a lounge and restaurant for families and adults. Located on the third floor of the Heavenly Village Cinema, the $1 million complex features 107-seats, a separate dining area serving authentic Italian cuisine, bar and lounge.

Tahoe South is destination vacation central for the 2015-16 ski season with more than $200 million in major enhancements in lodging, recreation and dining hot spot renovations that are underway.

The season's first significant snowfall covered the Sierra Monday with nearly a foot of powder at Lake Tahoe area resorts and 3-5 inches at lake level.

Anticipation for additional snowfall along with summer investments pays winter dividends at Tahoe South this season. The Brewery Arts Center welcomes back the "Cultures of Nevada" concert and performance series with nationally ranked musical artists, Chris Proctor and Montana Skies in two separate concerts in October at the BAC Performance Hall, 511 W King Street.

Two free lectures by science experts - one about the violent geologic history of Lake Tahoe, another concerning global warming, will highlight the many free activities at Western Nevada College during Earth Week, April 22-27.
Renewable energy exhibits, an organic gardening lecture, alternative fuel vehicles and a tree planting ceremony will also be featured.

“Many diverse and interesting activities will be offered,” said Valerie Andersen, WNC public service librarian and college Earth Week event coordinator. Students, faculty and the public are invited to attend.
