CARSON CITY — Special Olympics Nevada is honored to have more than 500 law enforcement personnel from police, sheriff, corrections, highway patrol, marshals, military, and other state and federal agencies across the Silver State involved.

CARSON CITY — A milestone is fast approaching for Shoe Tree Brewing Co., as it celebrates the first anniversary of the grand opening party at its location on Old Hot Springs Road.

A celebration is planned for June 16, 2018 starting at noon. There will be live bands, yard games, and a special release of Lapel DIPA in honor of the anniversary.

Tom Armstrong, currently seeking a second six-year term as Judge of Carson City's Justice/Municipal Court Department I, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. He will review the status of the Misdemeanor Treatment Court he established to help young drug addicts through the rehabilitation process.

From art and exercise classes, nature walks to gallery showings, fundraisers and afternoon happy hours that extend from one end of Carson Street to the other, Carson City showers itself this Tuesday with an action-packed all-ages calendar of arts, fitness and entertainment. Advanced tickets for the 2018 Taste of Downtown, one of Carson City's largest signature outdoor events of the year, are now on sale.

Catherine Byrne, candidate for state controller, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. Catherine is a Certified Public Accountant with decades of accounting experience, including many years of government accounting.

This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on June 4th at Carson City's Round Table Pizza, near Starbucks in the Walmart retail complex, just off of College Parkway. All-you-can-eat buffet lunch available. All are welcome.

Leon Aberasturi, candidate for Nevada Supreme Court, will be the featured speaker at next Monday's Democratic luncheon. A former Lyon County District Attorney, Aberasturi is a judge for Nevada's Third District Court in Yerington. He was first elected to the court in 2006, and was re-elected in 2014. He is running for the seat currently held by Justice Michael Cherry, who is termed out.

Two Pioneer High School student’s families have been affected by a tragic fire that happened Wednesday, May 16 at a Pheasant Drive apartment in Carson City. The families of Alexis Trujillo and Antonio Trujillo who attends Eagle Valley Middle School and Jordan and Theodore Leyva have been displaced following this incident.

The Carson City Symphony Association presents Nerds of Paradise in a house recital on Saturday, June 2 at the historic Bliss Mansion in Carson City.

Ryan Russell, candidate for Carson City Justice of the Peace/Municipal Court Judge Department 2, will be the featured speaker at next Monday's Democratic luncheon.

CARSON CITY — Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Nevada agencies and organizations have worked hard to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the Silver State, encouraging both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

Tina Davis-Hersey, the Democrat who's taking on Republican incumbent Ben Kieckhefer in State Senate District 16, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.

A first-year Lego team from Carson Montessori, which goes by the name Golden Dragons, is headed to the World Championships for FIRST Lego League Junior.

The Golden Dragons team is made up of first and second grade students from Carson Montessori, and they will be the first junior league from Nevada to ever attend the World Championships.

It’s just unfortunate timing that today has been designated ‘Nevada Moves Day.’ With the heavy rain, it may not be the best time to try your hand at walking or biking to school. The annual Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is fast approaching, and today is your last chance for in-person ticket sales. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, as well as other employees for the Nevada Department of Public Safety will be participating in the South Lake Tahoe “Polar Plunge” on Sunday, March 18.

Carson City Meals on Wheels announced Thursday that it will be participating in the 16th annual March for Meals — a month-long, community-by-community celebration of Meals on Wheels and the vulnerable seniors who rely on the vital service to remain independent at home.

The week winds down, but the happenings in Carson City are gearing up. Kids are going to have a fun time at the Carson Montessori Carnival Night. Help Relay for Life kick-off this year’s theme during their ‘Surfing for a Cure’ Luau at the Casino Fandango; you’ll have the opportunity to sign up your team, as well. No whining allowed, just fun times, at the Governor’s Mansion during tonight’s 'Let’s Wine Together' silent auction and wine fundraiser for the Carson High Band program.

Dayton, Nevada – This week’s Dayton Food Pantry news includes recognition for three groups that recently contributed to the Pantry: Volunteers in Policing (V.I.P.s), Girl Scout Service Unit 625, and the Misfits Theater Group. Dayton Food Pantry manager Alie Trier said, “This Thanksgiving we were so grateful for the hundreds of turkeys and hams, side items, and checks donated by the community. Now we even have enough to provide more than 500 more familes with spiral hams for Christmas. Thank you awesome community members!”

The Carson City community held its third annual Holiday Crawl Benefit 2017 on Saturday to raise money for the Holiday with a Hero campaign that gives local homeless children a chance to shop for themselves and family for Christmas. The downtown Carson City event was attended by more than 400 people, up about 100 from last year, organizers say.

Hoping to at least double the proceeds from last year's annual Pets of the Homeless fundraising campaign, a pair of Carson City businesses have teamed up for a third consecutive year in an effort to help the pets of homeless people across the United States.

Hungry Carson City area residents arrived at Applebee's throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening to support Special Olympics Nevada and to have their meals served to them by local law enforcement officers.

My sister lives in Sutherland Springs. I go there to see her every Thanksgiving. So, when she marked herself safe on Facebook from the mass shooting at the First Baptist Church, my heart dropped into my stomach. I called her and she relayed who she knew who had been shot. Eight people she knew died, five of them from the same family. Five more were injured. My heart rose to my throat.

Law Enforcement Torch Run Annual Tip-A-Cop benefit for Special Olympics will be held this Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Applebee's in Carson City from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 5 to 8 p.m.

The 14th annual Holiday With a Hero campaign is officially underway. The goal is to give at least 200 homeless children in Carson City a holiday gift to remember by presenting them with a $100 gift card to spend during a special shopping spree at Walmart.

The Carson City community has gotten behind one of their own who is in the midst of a cancer fight for his life. When "Mission Remission 2 to Beat Cancer" began it created a rally among friends of Mark Lindquist.

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner, a benefit for The Greenhouse Project, Monday, Nov. 13, at Café at Adele’s. The evening features a six-course, wine- or beer-paired dinner dinner prepared by Chef Charlie Abowd, co-owner of Adele’s and Chef Kevin Ashton of Zozo’s Ristorante in Reno.
