First Amendment
A First Amendment Declaration (opinion)
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 01/11/2021 - 5:49pmI get a lot of demands these days from politically correct socialists who whine and try to tell me what I can and cannot say, and/or how.
As a general rule I don't let anyone tell me what to say or think. I don’t tell other people what to; say, think or do and I don’t let others censor my thoughts or words. First Amendment precedent establishes my right to say almost anything, within reason, and everyone has this same right because government is expressly prohibited, by our Constitution, from abridging any peaceful speech (or thought) in America.

Column: What is patriotism?
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Sun, 07/01/2018 - 11:30amBeing a real patriot these days takes true grit, like the United States Marine Corps motto "Semper Fidelis," the latin translation of "always faithful."
Authentic patriotism just doesn't seem to fit the modern political narrative.
Of Cakes, Coercion, Freedom and Decency
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 06/06/2018 - 9:31amJack Phillips, a Colorado Christian cake artist, was known for his custom-designed masterpieces. In 2012, two men asked him to prepare a special cake for a local celebration of their upcoming Massachusetts marriage. At the time, Colorado law did not allow same-sex marriage.
Phillips politely declined, saying his religious faith didn’t allow him to participate expressly via his art in celebrating their marriage. He offered to sell them any product he made, but he wouldn’t prepare one specifically endorsing a gay union (nor Halloween, alcohol or nudity).

Geoff was reminded of that recently when he and his sainted wife Jenna watched a reenactment of the Jefferson-Adams debates. Bill Barker and Steven Holloway, two scholars from the Colonial Williamsburg living history museum, played Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, respectively.

First, let's begin with the simple fact that all gun control measures, actual or proposed, are prima facie unconstitutional. Why? Because the Second Amendment plainly says "… the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
A Potentially Potent Running Mate (sponsored)
Submitted by admin on Wed, 08/03/2016 - 10:53amAs most of my readers know when it comes to politics I am a registered Independent. Most other Independents that I spend time around are individual thinkers who appreciate space and time to make up their minds before voting They are not party hardliners as are many Democrats and Republicans. Most Independents that I actually have met several times and waded into great exchanges of political conversation with struck me as voters who are very careful giving their vote to anyone.

A reply regarding the Symposium On Common Core on Jan. 13
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Thu, 01/15/2015 - 6:39pmThis is a reply to my old friend Rich Dunn and to his posting, "All we got out of the Common Core 'symposium' was a one-sided presentation."
Wow, what a great spin. Once again we see a typically objective piece of reporting from a typically objective source. We can agree on one thing; it was a fiasco -- for the NDE.
Fortunately, there are others who have reported on this event, and their reports are on-line.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 03/26/2014 - 2:40pmMy compliments to Jed Block, Republican candidate for the Assembly 40th District, and his courage to reject the attempt by a small coterie of self-righteous, self-anointed, pseudo-intellectual purists of the Carson City Republican Party.

Life can change in a moment. At 8:56 on September 6, 2011, a deeply disturbed man with an automatic weapon stepped out of his car outside a Carson City, Nevada restaurant. In the moment that followed, he fired nearly 80 rounds – spraying bullets across a parking lot and into an IHOP packed with breakfast customers – killing four people and wounding 7 others before taking his own life.
