The Fourth Annual Carson City Off-Road is dedicated to Carson City native and visionary trails community leader, Joel Dunn. Born and raised in Carson City, Dunn has not only witnessed the evolution of Nevada's state capital but has also been a driving force in its transition into a recreation-focused community.

Local restaurant and brewery, The Fox Brewpub, will hold a fundraiser for a local family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with cancer on Saturday, April 6 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.

The event, which will raise funds for ten year-old Aylee Sharron, who was recently diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and is the daughter of Mariel and Tony Sharron, will feature a raffle and live-music.

Carson City’s burgeoning craft beer game is getting a bit stronger with The Fox Brewpub throwing its hops in the ring in Downtown Carson City.

As the week rolls along, it’s easy to get excited about the weekend. Genoa’s Cowboy Festival takes over the tiny town with music, poetry, artisans, food, and fun and the Comstock hills will roar to life with motorbikes during the annual Virginia City Grand Prix. While you’re waiting, enjoy a jaunt with Muscle Powered along the Carson River or take an Easy Walk to the Pioneer Cemetery. Tonight, songstress Canyon White will take the stage at Living the Good Life.

TUESDAY:

Happy Easter, Carson City. You’ll find all the egg hunts and brunches on a special everything Easter list HERE. Before the rain returns, grab a moment in the sun. A bike ride with Muscle Powered stretches your legs, Community Yoga at Comma Coffee stretches it all.

Easter SUNDAY:

Smack dab in the middle of April and the town is officially in its Spring thaw. Easter is on Sunday, so just about anywhere you go you’ll find the Bunny and an egg hunt. To make it easy, I’ve moved all of those events to their own everything Easter list HERE.

Strike a pose, Carson City, it’s the Nevada Library Association’s Snapshot Day. Try to swing by today to help your Library capture the many reasons we enjoy them; you may just find something new to explore. Carson High Performing Arts opens their show ‘Godspell’ tonight in the Community Center’s Bob Boldrick Theater. Break a leg to our young thespians; they’ll be performing Friday and Saturday, as well.

Spring is what you make of it. It’s not going to be that warm today, but it’ll be dry, so embrace the day. Tuesdays are for hiking and biking in Carson. The morning easy walk will take you from Mills Park to the Capitol and the afternoon conditioning hike will give you well-deserved views from C-Hill. Now that we’ve warmed up some, the Tuesday evening ladies’ ride in Ash Canyon has started up again: don’t forget your helmet. Congratulations to Mile High Jazz Band for 16 years of monthly concerts at Comma Coffee. Enjoy a night of great music, yummy drinks, and a birthday cake to celebrate.

Monday strikes again, but hopefully it won’t be too painful. If you’re off work early, grab some friends and hit up Red’s Old 395 for Martini Monday. Sing Manic Monday at the Fox Brewpub’s weekly karaoke night with J and M Productions. Find something new for your child’s bookcase at the Minden Library Children’s Book Swap; it’s a great way to keep them challenged. Local theater group, the Proscenium Players, welcomes you to check out their monthly meeting. They are always looking for new talent, whether it’s on stage or behind the scenes.

MONDAY:

The Littlest Things in Carson City is more than a petting zoo, it’s a refuge. You’ll find ponies, goats, puppies, ducks, and more at this great non-profit rescue and they are always looking for animal-loving volunteers. Stop by their open house/volunteer orientation this afternoon to check it out. It’s Tartan Day at the Legislature, so don’t be alarmed if you see a few kilts around town. Karaoke at Jimmy G’s, live music at Glen Eagles and Living the Good Life, and Bike Night at Battle Born Harley are just a sample of tonight’s offerings. Read on and you’ll know all that Carson has to offer.

You’ll want to read today’s list, fun stuff all over and something for everyone. Psst… Daytonites… Your kids are on spring break right now, and Carson has some great ways to keep them entertained. Younger ones will enjoy a trip to the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada; Tuesdays feature a story and craft activity that’s included with admission. A quick trip to the Galaxy Theater website gets you a rewards card good for Tuesday discount tickets. The Deputy Howell Memorial Musical Festival is holding a volunteer organization meeting tonight at Battle Born Harley.

March Madness spills into April with the NCAA Championship Game final showdown. Watch the Gonzaga Bulldogs take on the UNC Tar Heels tonight at 6 p.m. If you find yourself at the Fox Brewpub you may be one of the two lucky people with a chance at free beer for a year. Find out what the city has planned as they walk you through the upcoming budget offered at two public open house presentations. It’s a firefighter kind of day. Not only will they be honored at today’s Legislative Session, Firehouse Subs is hosting a fundraiser for the Fritch Elementary School’s PTA.

MONDAY:

I’m hoping that April brings more than just showers. Not that I don’t love the spring flowers, but I’m really ready for some sunshine. Start off the month with a clean kitchen: let the Elks Club take care of breakfast. Grab your guitar, tambourine, ukulele, or vocal chords and join the A to Zen Music Jam. Head ‘North by Northwest’ at the Galaxy Theater. The classic thriller is on the big screen at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

SUNDAY:

It may be April’s Fools Day, but the fun going on around town is no joke. Get your blood pumping with the Carson Canyon Half Marathon (or Half/Half Marathon if you want something shorter.) It’s Wine Walk weekend, and with the sunny day you have no reason to stay home. The Youth Theater Carson City Showstoppers want to ‘Give Our Regards to Broadway’ during their one weekend only production. There’s too much to mention in this short opening paragraph, so keep reading for all the great things our valley and sister valleys have to offer.

SATURDAY:

I hope nobody thought Thursdays were boring: this list will prove them quite very wrong. Art Galleries galore, an author meet/greet, and book discussion, karaoke, and Bike Night at Battle Born Harley. I love Carson City for the wonderful diversity in our many varied interests. Our local game shop, Hydra’s Lair, invites you to movie night. If Star Wars III isn’t your style, then” our worst fears have been realized. We must move quickly if the Jedi Order is to survive.”

THURSDAY:

It seems like overnight the crabapples have exploded into bloom. Take advantage of a beautiful day by joining one of the walks organized every Tuesday. An easy walk with Parks and Rec will take you along a portion of the Mexican Ditch Trail today. The Muscle Powered walk in early evening is more strenuous. Fathers will want to get moving if they plan on taking their daughter to the Carson High Father Daughter Dance this Friday. Swing by the High School office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. for tickets or shoot an email to teacher Angila Golek to make sure they’re waiting at will call.

Like many of you, I have a weather app on my phone. It says to expect some snow this morning, so I’m hoping it’s a liar. Make Monday easy on yourself and let the Pizza Factory take care of dinner. A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to Paul Guzetta, a 36 year old local man who is battling an infection in intensive care. Lending a hand to his wife and kids during this tough time is as easy as ordering a pizza (or one of their yummy salads or pasta.) Once you have a full, happy belly, check out karaoke at the Fox Brewpub or swing dance night at El Charro Avita.

The weekend always rushes by too quickly. Slow it down with Community Yoga at Comma Coffee or join Muscle Powered on their weekly bike ride. Bingo is more than just a name-o at the Carson City Senior Center. Join in the fun and help raise funds for the Meals on Wheels Program. Theater lovers won’t want to miss ‘A Funny thing Happened on the Way to the Forum’ at the CVIC Hall in Minden or ‘Bus Stop’ performed by the Proscenium Players at the Brewery Arts Center.

Spring has sprung, but apparently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. Join the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson Mall and take part in an indoor wine walk and rummage sale. Help Hot Spot Yoga and Fitness for Life celebrate their grand opening with free classes, health vendors, a 5K run, and more. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. Today is a day to give big. A one day fundraising drive for our favorite non-profit charities is happening right now, whether it’s animals, arts. Kids, veterans, or the environment. Thursdays also mean a fun night at Jimmy G’s Karaoke. The Trippin King Snakes help celebrate everyone with a March birthday at the Cigar Bar (AKA Carson Cigar Co.) If you have a two wheeled mistress, the Bike Night at Battle Born Harley may be up your alley.

THURSDAY:

I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine while it was here, more rain is on the way. Take those spring-breakers to a movie; Galaxy Theater rewards members can enjoy $6.50 movies all day today. Sip something yummy at the Courtyard by Marriott during their wine tasting and open house. Normally the Carson City Photo Club meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month, but due to a scheduling conflict, the meeting is tonight. Dues are only $15 a year and you’ll get the chance to enter their monthly competitions: this month the theme is ‘Winter.’

TUESDAY:

The first day of spring is here, and while it may not mean the end of the snow, it is a harbinger of longer days ahead. Carson kids and the students of Western Nevada College have a reason to celebrate – spring break is here. The State Legislature has an exhibit on display celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women in the Military, in addition to several works of art by Nevadans, so make a special trip to check it out. The High Sierra Swing Dance Club meets every Monday at El Charro Avita for an evening of dancing and learning something new.

Bet your bottom dollar that it will be a great weekend. Wild Horse Children’s Theater finishes up its spring production of ‘Annie, Jr: The Musical,’ so don’t miss your chance to catch these talented kids on stage. Muscle Powered will be out and about for their monthly Trash Mob and invite you to help clean up a little corner of our valley. The Annual Polar Plunge at Zephyr Cove is a brave way to help the Special Olympics raise money, and the costumes get wilder every year. Keep reading and enjoy the weather before the clouds return.

Now that the sun has come out, the month is just flying by. St Patrick’s Day is tomorrow, with the first day of spring on Monday. Find some new art to love at the Artsy Fartsy Artist Meet and Greet. With two story times and Lego Club today, the Carson Library has your little ones covered. Treat yourself to dinner out and lend a hand to the Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation with the Give Back Event at Chili’s. Get that chopper out of the garage and head over to Battle Born Harley for Bike Night with beer pong, pool, and more.

Three point one four. That silly number gives us the secret of the circle. And it sounds like 'pie.' Let's celebrate 'pi day' with some jazz and poetry dedicated to math and baked goods with the Mile High Jazz Band at Comma Coffee tonight. TUESDAY: Pi Day 3.14

Oh, this morning is going to hurt. Adjusting to Daylight Savings Time is always a little rough, and this Monday gets going one hour earlier than usual. The Father-Daughter Dance at Carson High is on March 31, but don’t wait until the last moment for tickets. Grab them in the High School Office between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Grab some friends and head to Carson Cigar Co. for Game Night: Cards Against Humanities, Apples to Apples, and Jenga are just a few of the offerings – it changes every week.

Many beautiful sunny days are ahead of us. I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of the rain and snow, but as the days get longer, it’s easier to be optimistic that spring is on its way. Take advantage of the weather with today’s Muscle Powered Easy Hike. Meet photographer Abe Blair at the Nevada State Museum tonight. Admission is free for the celebration of his exhibit, Beyond Nature’s Light. Head to Carson Cigar Company for a Sake Party with premium sake, raffle prizes, and something delicious to snack on.

It’s a blast from the past today. Longtime locals remember the Penguin quite fondly. The folks at Westside Pour House have been entrusted with their taco recipe and will be serving them up today. Continue your trip to yesteryear with the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Capital City Arts Initiative welcomes art writer, Chérie Louise Turner to their Nevada Neighbors program. Check out the ART from WNC exhibit in the Community Development Building before her talk ‘From New York to Fallon: Abstract Art Today.’

TUESDAY:

Who has two thumbs and is ready for spring? This girl. Monday starts off with some icy roads so please give yourself some extra time to travel. It’s going to be quite a blustery day, but hopefully we’ve seen the end of the wet stuff for a little while. Start the week off with some fun. You can swing dance the night away at El Charro’s, sing the workweek blues at the Fox Brewpub’s karaoke night, or help Sassafras welcome guitarist Ian Moore to the stage.

MONDAY:

What a great start to March. A few days on sunshine under our belt and now it’s wine walk weekend. With fingers crossed, the weather should hold out until it’s over, but be prepared for some wind. The Shrine Circus is in Reno, Girl Scout Cookies are on sale, and we inch closer to the longer days and shorter nights of Spring.
