Feeding wildlife not only wrong, but illegal in Nevada

For years now, the Nevada Department of Wildlife has been telling the public to not feed wildlife. While there are many reasons why you should never feed wildlife, NDOW would like to point out the newest addition to the list: feeding big game mammals is now against the law.

NDOW: Lake Tahoe bears at Incline Village still active as Christmas approaches

It has been a busy week at Incline Village on the north shore of Lake Tahoe for Nevada Department of Wildlife game wardens dealing with nuisance bears. On Thursday, NDOW euthanized a 263-pound male black bear and on Sunday a bear was released in the wild south of Gardnerville.

The euthanized bear was positively identified as one that had been breaking into and entering cars, at least one home and some garages in an Incline neighborhood, according to a Nevada Department of Wildlife news release.

I turned into a tall skinny kid as I entered adolescence and got teased about being so skinny by peers, parents and others which made me terribly self-conscious. Then, my parents divorced when I was 14 which shook me to the core.

State investigates shooting of two horses east of Carson City

The deaths of two horses east of Carson City near Mound House is being investigated by the state of Nevada.
The Nevada Department of Agriculture reports one horse, which appeared to have been shot, was found dead Monday near Mound House in Lyon County.

Another horse, which appeared to have been shot with arrows and was near death, was found near the same area. The second horse was euthanized by a state agricultural enforcement officer.

High Desert Horsemen 'Trail Trial' set for Sept. 14

High Desert Horsemen, a local horse club that was established in 2005, will be holding its annual Trail Trial at Fort Churchill Boy Scout Camp, Weeks, NV on Saturday, September 14, 2013. The club donates a good portion of the proceeds back to the community. Last year's recipients were: Dayton Food Bank, Kids N Horses, Dog Town Canine Rescue, and Feeding Pets of the Homeless.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (http://www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing varies from day to day, with some days being good, while others being slow. Best time of day is from about 6:00 am to 10:30 am and then again after the shadows start to hit the water in late afternoon.
Best conditions seem to be with a 5 to 10 mph breeze, putting a small chop on the water.
A few fish are being taken with small dry flies, mostly yellow in color, but most of the luck is still coming with nymphs below an indicator or dry fly.

The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health congratulates staff and administration at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City for becoming Nevada’s first Baby-Friendly Hospital.

“We are thrilled that Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center has received Baby-Friendly designation. We hope this encourages other facilities to examine, challenge and modify longstanding policies and procedures to promote breastfeeding and breastfeeding support to delivering moms and newborn babies,” said Tracey D.
