UPDATE: Dayton Urgent Care will be accepting accepting gift cards from the public that will then be used to purchase school supply items instead of collecting actual school supplies, according to Carson Tahoe Health.

Dayton Urgent Care is doing so in an effort to reduce/prevent any possible spread of COVID-19. Donors are asked to bring gift cards rather than items for a donation box.

With the new school year approaching, our schools, students, and families may be struggling with a variety of issues including school supplies. With new regulations and guidelines, acquiring these much needed items may prove difficult for families who are facing financial uncertainty.

High Five Turkey Drive and More: Events around Carson City for Thursday, Nov. 14

Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. You can give an entire family a big cheer Thursday by donating a turkey at the annual Carson City High Five Turkey Drive hosted by FISH at Carson City Nissan. Stop by, bring a turkey and give a local family in need a happy Thanksgiving. Other events around the capital city include a Nevada Peace Officer Standards and Training graduation ceremony, a talk about earthquake preparedness hosted by Carson City Native and Newcomers Club, a Muscle Powered afternoon hike and more.

Holiday season and two winter storms slow December blood donations

Approaching Christmas Day, Vitalant in Northern Nevada, formerly United Blood Services, is aiming to collect more than 3,500 donations in December to increase the community blood supply. Recent winter storms have caused blood drive cancellations and reduced blood collections at local Vitalant donation centers.

SLHS National Honors Students Raise $6,300 for Local Family

During the holiday season, there seems to be an influx of general goodwill and charity. However, for the students at Sierra Lutheran High School, there was a tangible sense of enthusiasm at the last chapel service of the year.

Local businesses partner with Boys and Girls Clubs to brighten holidays for nearly 40 families

Diane McCoy, director of operations for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, shut the doors of the van that was overflowing with bags and cartons of gifts for the Club’s annual Adopt-a-Family Christmas drive, donated by the Ridge Tahoe EAGLES employees group.

She went back inside to thank the donors, and found she had missed several more boxes full of cleaning supplies, pots and pans, dishes, laundry detergent and gift cards for local grocery stores.

Pie to the Rescue pies available to order at Carson High School Craft Fair

Northern Nevada Dream Center has teamed up with Carson High School's Culinary Arts program to help feed families. You can support the Culinary Arts team by letting them bake your Thanksgiving pies. You can order them Friday and Saturday at the Carson High School Craft Fair.
