We are traveling the world this year! During the 5-day art camp students ages 5-10 will “visit” Asia, South America, Europe, Africa, and Australia to experience the art, culture, and music of these continents. Each day of the week will focus on the art and traditions of each of the continents. Each camper will have their “passport” stamped daily and will design a “travel bag” for all of their camp art projects.

The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation, is pleased to announce winners of mini-grants from Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. The competitive process garners dozens of applications from district educators each semester. In addition to the mini-grants, the foundation has also awarded $2,000 to $3,000 grants for a Department, School or Grade-level projects.

Ever spend some time watching high school students having fun? They do it so naturally. There is no lack of excitement happening at Carson High School, and one of the more amazing aspects of this high school is everyone is invited to attend every event.

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its Photo Finished 2020 exhibition at the Community Development Building, also known as the Brick, 108 East Proctor Street in Carson City.

The American Citizen Essay winners are in, and they all have one thing in common: cash prizes. This year, the Carson City School District Board of Trustees selected the topic, “An early motto of the United States was e pluribus unum, which means ‘out of many, one,’ so how do we embrace diversity and inclusiveness to come together as one country?”

Renowned American Artist, E. Louise Kerr, peacefully passed away in her Virginia City, Nevada home with her loved ones by her side. February 19, 1925 to November 13, 2018

Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Carson City Library will host Valeri Wilson, currently a student at the University of Nevada, Reno, on Wednesday, September 2, at 6:30 pm for a presentation on the country of Turkey. Wilson studied at the Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey.

As a student in her final semester at UNR she is studying for a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and psychology. While in Turkey she was able to study the sociology and culture of the country and its people. Join us to learn more about the diverse culture of the Turkish nation.

It’s National Eat Your Veggies Day, and if you find yourself in Douglas County, either one of today’s farmers markets will make that an easy and delicious feat. Carson City hosts its own Farmers Market on Third and Curry Streets every Saturday morning until September. Head to the Carson City Library this evening for a presentation on Myanmar by local resident, Raven Grayshield. Carson City Library will host local resident Raven Grayshield on Wednesday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation on the country of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma.

Grayshield spent five months living in Yangon teaching English. Her enthusiasm about the country and culture is evident in the experiences she will share Wednesday evening. Join us to learn more about the nation tucked between China, India, and Thailand. In Grayshield’s words, “I want to take you through the charms of the country.”

With hopes of generating enthusiasm among young people and using themes of robotics, aviation and aerospace to do it, Carson City Airport's annual open house returns to the skies above the capital city on Saturday, June 20, after a year hiatus.

More than 6,000 visitors attended the event in 2013. This year’s open house, which runs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., is free to the public. Activities will feature interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, robotics demonstrations, food and beverages, bounce house and many more family activities.

Explore the World @ Your Library: Northern Nepal - A Journey of a Lifetime

Angela Sullivan will present a journey into the Tibetan Buddhist heart of the Upper Mustang Region of Northern Nepal during a lecture at Carson City Library.
The public is welcome to join Angela for a virtual trek along ancient pilgrimage routes that cover more than 250 miles and a visit to the ancient walled city of Lo Mantang, the royal seat of the Kingdom of Lo.

The Carson City Library will present Explore New Zealand at Your Library on Thursday, May 9th, at 6:00 p.m. in the library auditorium.

Library staff member Una Gauper recently visited the island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Her journey spanned months of travel and adventure. Her large network of extended family provided expert travel guidance as she experienced the culture and explored the landscape.
