Heading into the final weekend of October, Halloween and Nevada Day events will keep revelers busy through Sunday making for a jam packed weekend of fun for families and grownups around the Carson City region.

Each October, Nevadans turn their attention to the state capitol, Carson City, home of the “official” Nevada Day Parade. Since 1938, the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City has been an annual coming together to celebrate Nevada’s heritage and the founding of this great state on October 31, 1864.

The North Carson Street location of Yogurt Beach will close permanently this Wednesday, however the newest location on East William Street, will remain open.

As we head into the final stretch of the week, events around the Carson City region are lined up for the next three days, including museum activities, outdoor concerts, a car cruise Friday at Carson Mall, athletic events, a Carson High School class of 1979 reunion, the Taste of Downtown on Saturday and much more.

Carson Mall in Carson City will host a Cruise Night from 5 to 7 p.m. this Friday night, July 19. The cruise will be in the same area as Dutch Brothers. Organizers ask for a donation of non-perishable food. The cruise is open to all makes and models. Call 775-671-8150 for information.

The death toll continues to climb and the number of homes and structures destroyed grows from the Camp Fire wildfire in Paradise, Calif. Fires are also raging in Southern California. Here are a few ways you can help.

Battle Born Social is hosting a Un-Valentine's Roaring 20s Party and hoping to see some zoot suits and flapper dresses while they serve era-inspired cocktails and appetizers.

With Thanksgiving just days away, the holiday season is just around the corner. The annual Holiday Craft Fair at Carson High features a plethora of handmade and locally crafted gifts for the loved ones on your shopping list. Take the plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center if you want to get a picture with Scuba Santa. Grab a coat, some friends, and your ID and head downtown for this month’s beer crawl. $15 gets you a glass and your first beer, from there you’ll pay only $1 for refills at several watering holes. The event is open to the public, and individuals and companies are encouraged to participate and is a fundraiser to support the Special Olympics of Nevada. One hundred percent of the money collected will support local athletes.

Ground has been broken for the construction of a new Dutch Brothers Coffee franchise on Highway 50 East in Carson City.

You know you’re probably going to need some coffee, so head over to Dutch Brothers in the Carson Mall parking lot. One dollar of every drink goes to the Carson High Safe Grad Celebration. Western Nevada College is hosting an open house in the Reynolds Center for Technology featuring some of their great programs. Stick around for the artist reception celebrating the ‘521 Days’ exhibit by artist Wes Lee in the Bristlecone Building’s main gallery. Stop what you’re doing at 10:20 a.m. and brace yourself: the Great Nevada Shake-out Drill reminds us to be ready for earthquakes.

On July 9, Carson Animal Services Initiative, also known as CASI, had the pleasure of hosting our annual Bark, Whine and Dine fundraiser at Fuji Park, and because of our incredible community, it was once again a huge success.

It’s Presidents Day weekend with a Valentine’s Day cherry on top. There is still time for some shopping if you’re looking for something for your special someone. Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery hosts its annual Champagne and Jewelry party Saturday and offers some amazing hand-crafted bling for your sweetheart. Carson Mall is another great bet for last minute gifts. Several crafters, vendors, and shops make it easy to find something unique. The annual Feast of Chocolate returns to the Plaza Event Center; raising funds for scholarships has never tasted so good.

Where to start? This weekend is chock-full of options. The local 4-H club is hosting their annual Fabric and Rummage Sale at Fuji Park. The Annual Feast of Chocolate, hosted by AAUW, is Saturday afternoon at the Plaza Event Center. The Vagina Monologues and One Billion Rising are both raising awareness this V-Day weekend for women’s issues.

The new Sportsman's Warehouse store in the Carson Mall will be opening today, three days earlier than scheduled.

A worker at the store said at 10:15 today that they would be opening in one or two more hours.

The store was initially set to open on Monday.

Also, the newly relocated Dutch Brothers Coffee will be opening tomorrow at 5 a.m.

The Empty Bowls project, a locally organized fundraiser that culminated at the Carson City Silver and Snowflake Festival on Dec. 6 and was initiated to bring awareness of local hunger issues, raised $2,722.35 for Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, which feeds, houses and provides services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.

The Carson City community banded together to help Tiffani Barber and raised over $3000.00 in silent auction items at High Sierra Brewery on Monday, January 21st. This would not have been possible without the community support. The Carson City community members and businesses generously donated items and have supported the Barber family through this difficult time.
