Organizers aim for new Taste of Downtown Carson City date; original July event canceled
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 05/06/2020 - 1:58pmIn an update Wednesday from Advocates to End Domestic Violence, the organization behind the community's annual summer culinary favorite Taste of Downtown Carson City, the event won't take place on July 18 as volunteers had hoped. However, organizers are working on plans to find a way to make the event happen this year.
Easter baskets for Carson City, Douglas and Lyon County children in need sought by local organization

Easter egg basket goodies sought for kids staying at Carson City abuse shelter

Dozens of Carson City restaurants will participate in this evening event, giving residents and visitors alike the chance to sample food, dig into unique dishes and get a feel for the vibe of the local cuisine.
Whether it’s burgers, nachos, tamales, or Thai food, participants are likely to find it in downtown Carson City on July 23, the date that “Taste” is scheduled in honor of its 23rd year. Restaurants like “The Thick Slice Pizza,” “Red’s Old 395 Grill,” and “Yang’s Kitchen” are taking part.
Carson City authorities arrest Dayton man tied to Jan. 11 murder and robbery near park
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sun, 01/24/2016 - 6:33pmUPDATE: Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Monday the murder investigation of Grant Watkins continues and there could be additional arrests.
"The investigation has well determined that a group of young men set out to rob Watkins of approximately 3 ounces of marijuana, and in the course of the event, Watkins was killed by gunfire along-side a neighborhood park," said Furlong. "In addition to the arrests, Detectives have executed search warrants at four residences and one rural environment, as well as the crime scene area. While the Sheriff’s Office believes that the core of the offenders has already been arrested, other arrests could come later as details of lateral involvement are made clear."

A 20-year-old Dayton man was arrested in connection with the Jan. 11 murder of a Carson City man during a late night drug deal that erupted in gunfire near a subdivision park, a Carson City sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Carson City deputies make several court warrant arrests

Arrests have also been made that involved domestic abuse, theft, driving under the influence of drugs and huffing.
Deputies arrested a 28-year-old transient with outstanding felony and gross misdemeanor warrants. Melanie Huddleston, was arrested early Wednesday morning, 3:16 a.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.
Man jailed for hit and run near school, admits to taking six Ambien the night before
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Sat, 03/09/2013 - 3:35pmA 36-year-old Carson City man faces misdemeanor charges of hit and run and driving while under the influence of drugs after admitting he had taken six Ambien the night before to help him sleep and then woke up to drive his children to school.
The man was arrested March 7, 8:37 a.m. at his home in the 400 block of Winnie Lane after witnesses provided a license plate number following a vehicle crash in which the man fled without stopping. He also reportedly crashed into a curb, losing his hubcaps and was seen driving on a sidewalk.

Carson City man faces felony charge after throwing, strangling woman
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/19/2010 - 11:39amA 35 year-old Carson City man was arrested and faces a felony charge of domestic battery after he allegedly took the mother of his children, threw her to ground, and strangled her.
The incident happened at around 3 this morning in the 2500 block of Lorraine Street after dispatch received an emergency 911 call and then a hang up. An officer was dispatched and met with the couple and one their sons. The woman explained the couple had a fight about the children and the couple's relationship with them, according to the arrest report.
Domestic abuse calls keep Carson City officers busy over weekend

Most involved drinking, with at least one of the cases resulting in a woman being taken to the hospital after she was punched and kicked in the head and face.

A 21-year-old unemployed Carson City man was arrested on domestic battery charges after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend from behind and held a tight hold on her until she collapsed. The incident happened at North Roop and Northridge streets at about 3 p.m. on Sunday.
