Happy 30th Birthday to Rayna Katherine Donoho-King
Our September Girl

Try to remember that time of September when life was new
and full of anticipation of a new season that filled us
with a breath of fresh crisp air,
a song like the Zephyr winds blowing through the trees
over the mountain tops and down through the valley,
from the subtle to the dramatic continuously changing as the trees
and landscape of the season,
with unpredictable highs and lows that could be dramatically different
from the beginning of fall to the end,

A quiet writer and keen coach, Rick Chandler made his mark

After the basketball team he coached was whistled for an unprecedented technical foul – a “provocative crossover” dribble – Rick Chandler blended two major parts of his professional life. He wrote a column about it.

Chandler was a well-known sportswriter and a highly successful coach. But he also was somewhat of an enigma. Parts of his life were a mystery to friends and peers other than that he was undeniably unassuming and altruistic. He was involved in many things that people didn’t know about for the simple reason that he rarely talked about himself.

JoAnne Skelly column: Ticks, Yuck! Remove, dispose in alcohol but don't flush them

Ticks not only can carry disease, they are disgusting. I have rarely noticed ticks on our property, but recently, I found two in the house, where they must have come in on my clothes after I worked in the high grasses and wildflowers in the yard. Yuck! Fortunately, they weren’t engorged with blood.
