Local non-profit groups gather during the Our Town in Our Park event in Dayton
Dozens of local non-profit agencies gathered at Our Park in Dayton Saturday during the Our Town in Our Park event.
Non-profit groups including the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce, Dayton Volunteer Fire Department, JOIN INC, Dayton Valley Dog Park and the Historical Society of Dayton teamed-up to promote wellness, services and career opportunities to the community.
Along with a slew of tents, several games and raffle prizes were handed out to kids of all ages with the help of more non-profits including 4-H and Dayton Girl Scouts.
“It helps people know that the services are here if they need them,” Our Town organizer Sharon Atkinson said. “This event helps kids learn some of the skills within the community to help shape their futures too.”
Our Town also helps promote jobs and community service opportunities around Dayton.
“There a lot of job opportunities in Lyon County,” Atkinson said. “People don’t have to go to Reno, Sparks or Carson City. There are tons of businesses here so we’re hoping to educate the community about our resources.”
The event ran from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hot dogs, nachos and free snacks were handed out to participants.
