Suicide has reached epidemic levels in Nevada, according to numbers from the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health (DPBH), and the state has been stepping up efforts in recent years to combat the problem.

Carson City man among 9 in Reno area implicated in DEA prescription drug case

A local doctor and eight other Reno-area residents, including a number of employees of the Jones West Ford dealership have been arrested and charged with being part of a conspiracy to unlawfully distribute highly addictive prescription drugs, including oxycodone, to people who did not have a medical necessity for them.

Auditions for the talent show will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2:05 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria at CHS. Audition applications can be picked up from room No. 243 or the office. The CHS talent show is only open to ninth through 12th graders at CHS and cash prizes are awarded. The CHS chapter of FBLA is hosting this event. A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday on felony fraud and drug charges after allegedly attempting to obtain narcotic medication with a forged prescription, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Doctors have told Leslie McGarry her cancer is terminal, predicting she has between two to five years left to live.
She disagrees.

“I don’t feel like,” she begins, but pauses to cover her 5-year-old daughter’s ears. “I don’t feel like I’m dying,” she continues. “Medically, I get it. But I refuse that diagnosis.”

One technician put it to her bluntly. “You have an expiration date,” he told her.

“I laughed. I do have an expiration date, we all do,” McGarry said. “But that’s up to God. He has the final answer.”

Youth Theatre Carson City will feature the upcoming production of "Yes, Virginia: The Musical," an exciting new holiday classic based on the Macy’s and NBC Holiday special of the same name.

"Yes, Virginia: The Musical" has been adapted specifically for children and families by Macy’s, in partnership with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The show will run two performances, Dec. 19-20, 2015 in the Bob Boldrick Theatre at the Carson City Community Center.

A 32-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Monday at a Furgerson Ranch Road residence on suspicion of domestic battery third offense after allegedly placing his hands over the victim’s mouth and causing her nose to bleed, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.
