Writers’ Wednesdays: Author to talk about 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley

Sports historians often call the 1960 Winter Olympics held at Squaw Valley “the last great games.” In an intimate, unspoiled setting, the best winter athletes from around the globe converged on the previously unheralded ski resort for 11 days. Television cameras (and Walter Cronkite) were there and Walt Disney choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies.

Carson City's WNMTC to present ‘The Little Mermaid’ in November

UPDATE 7:23PM: Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators assisted Butte County, Calif., authorities in arresting a Carson City man Thursday on murder and robbery charges in which a Northern California man, who had a large quantity of processed marijuana at his residence, was shot to death in November.

Carson Valley's GE Bentley raises more than $215,000 for local breast cancer patients

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation honored a group of employees from GE Bently Nevada and the Carson Valley Inn for their ongoing efforts in support of local cancer patients in need. Over the last 12 years, they have donated over $215,000 in funds raised in support of the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, an affiliate of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, during their annual GE Bunko for Breast Cancer event held at the Carson Valley Inn.

Carson High School sports medicine program provides more than just education

Caroline Gabica slid activated hand warmers into her boots, picked up a bag of footballs and followed the coach out onto the field during the playoff game between Carson and Reed high schools in November. Soon Gabica, manager for the Carson High School Senators football team, was back on the sidelines, taping up the injured fingers of a player who got tangled up with another player’s face mask.

The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company gets into the festive spirit beginning Friday with a magical production to marks its 25th season with the Broadway blockbuster musical "Mary Poppins."
