Good day Carson City, we hope you are enjoying your Nevada Day weekend. It is Sunday, Oct. 27, 2019. Events around the capital city area include a post Nevada Day Trash Mob cleanup, a morning bike ride, Pow Wow activities at the MAC, the RSVP carnival at Mills Park as well as as tours of the Wungnema House, also in the park, Thomas the Train activities Virginia City and more. It will be a much cooler day weather wise, so dress warm. Enjoy.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region Friday through Sunday to celebrate Nevada Day. Activities include the annual parade down Carson Street, a carnival at Mills Park, the 30th annual Nevada Day Classic, The La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the MAC, beard and rock drilling contests, delicious food dishes, pancakes, chili and plenty of beverages to suit kids and adults of all ages.

Sunday will bring cool temperatures and some sunshine with daytime highs in the mid 60s around the capital city region. Lined up today are fall train rides in Carson City and Virginia City, a women veteran's support group meeting, and a a discussion with survivors, family and doctors about metastatic breast cancer. Also today, the Carson City Symphony will open its 36th season at the community center. Enjoy.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by. Events include Harvest Train festivities at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, Thomas the Tank Engine and steam train rides in Virginia City, the first-ever Gandy Dance in Dayton, October Ghost Walk Tours through downtown Carson City and more!

All aboard for a childhood train experience like no other. Thomas the Tank Engine invites little engineers to go full steam ahead for activities and fun adventures as Day Out with Thomas: The Steam Team Tour 2019 makes a two-weekend stop in Virginia City beginning this Saturday.

Thomas the Tank Engine is in town this weekend greeting his young fans and taking them on a magical train ride in Virginia City.

Nevada Day and the big parade are just one week away, but first is the annual Carson City Ghost Walk this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in downtown Carson City.

Every spooky Halloween or family friendly fall themed event in Carson City, Gardnerville, Virginia City, Reno, Sparks, Dayton, and more.

Chances are, you’ll need to recover from yesterday a little. Downtown Carson City has you covered with a ‘Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday’ bloody mary contest in Arlington Square. Get your trick-or-treat on at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or at the historic Wungnema House at the east end of Mills Park. Grand Entrance at the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow begins at 12 p.m. Its new home at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center (MAC) has let the annual event become even bigger. You’ve got one last chance to get your fill of cotton candy and the Ferris Wheel: the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival closes at 8 p.m.

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. Read on for events throughout Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, Silver and Virginia Cities.

Finally, Nevada Day weekend is here. State offices are closed, the kids are off school, and Carson City is hoppin’. Join the Downtown Business Association for the ‘Passport to Downtown’ with live music, a raffle, craft and vendor show, and a family fun center, complete with petting zoo. Stick around for the annual fall Blinky Man Costumed Nighttime Bike Ride Pub Crawl with Lights. Halloween festivities, a carnival in Mills Park, and opening night of the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow are on today’s list, as well.

Nevada Day is just around the corner, but don’t jump the gun. This weekend offers fun for the young and young-at-heart. If you’ve got more apples than you know what to do with, the Greenhouse Garden Center has a cider press available today. Play BINGO for a good cause at the Carson City Senior Center, and don’t forget your costume. Carson City Symphony Association begins their 34th Season today with a concert at the Bob Boldrick Theater; as always, those under 18 get free admission.

The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m.

Well, that was an abrupt change in weather. Today will definite feel like fall, so bundle up. The Halloween festivities for the over 21 crowd get started tonight with parties at Living the Good Life, Ed's Doghouse, and Jimmy G's Cigar Bar. If your costume isn't ready yet, you'll still have plenty of opportunities between now and Oct. 31. A hypnotic fundraiser for Mark Lindquist takes place at Silver Oak Golf Course this evening.

Children everywhere can spend the day with their friend, Thomas, when the No. 1 Engine pulls into the Virginia and Truckee Railroad station in Virginia City for two weekends next month: Oct. 20-22 and Oct. 27-29.

After an action-packed Nevada Day Saturday, Sunday traditions carry on, such as the 35th Annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the Carson Colony gym. Take the kids up to Virginia City for one last chance to catch Thomas the Tank Engine at the V & T Depot. It may be a little rainy, but the show must go on at the NV Day Carnival and Festival at Mills Park.

Happy Birthday Nevada. My favorite holiday has arrived, and with it a mountain of fun to be had. Normally my weekend list is sorted by chronological start time, but for this one I will be separating out the downtown parade related activities for your ease. Let’s just call this Nevad-oween weekend. So much crazy fun awaits: whether it’s the celebration of our ‘new’ downtown, Halloween parties for kids and adults alike, or our State Museum’s 75th Anniversary. Start your day at the Museum, hang around for the downtown ribbon cutting and festivities, then join in the costumed fun as Blinky Man hits the streets. Do the time warp at the Brewery Arts Center: the Rocky Horror Picture Show Party starts at 8:30 p.m. This is going to be one amazing weekend, so let’s get this party started.

Breathe in some crisp autumn air and take in the beauty of the changing leaves as you accompany Muscle Powered on an early morning bike ride. Show off your favorite fur baby at Genoa Coffee and Candy’s Howl-O-Ween celebration. Stop by the Nevada State Railroad Museum for the last day of the Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch. Hold onto your broomstick, this weekend is bound to sweep you up in Halloween fun. First you’ll need a pumpkin. The Harvest Train Festival and Pumpkin Patch at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to start. Take the costumed kids to a Trunk or Treat at Advantage Auto Works off Old Hot Springs Road courtesy of the members of Carson Cruise Meet and Greet. Team up with Mark Twain for a ghostly tour of our haunted downtown or you can choose a shorter tour that’s perfect for families. Keep reading, this is just the tip of the candy corn.

SATURDAY:

Get those costumes ready, the Halloween parties start tonight. Ed’s Doghouse’s party kicks off at 6 p.m. and is celebrating proprietor and namesake’s birthday as well. Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar has DJ Mobeatz and DJ Cillo keeping you on the dance floor. Scaryoke at Whiskey Tavern combines karaoke, beer pong, and drink specials for a super crazy fun time. Body-painter extraordinaire, Lynzie Ruckuer, teams up with DJ Brunch Dizzle for an American Horror Story themed party at Remedy’s.

Recognized as one of a handful of the most haunted towns in the U.S., Virginia City rattles the chains, cages, ballroom floor and railroad tracks for the rest of the month as part of its “Hauntober” celebration, offering up ghostly adventures culminating Oct. 31, Nevada Day and Halloween.
